“I don’t think so. But just to be safe, I guess we won’t make it obvious we’re together and you shouldn’t use your title. I’ll have to come up with another way to make sure you know who you belong to.”

Utah absentmindedly played with the charm on her neck.

“You mean the collar around my neck isn’t enough?”

He looked over at her with raised eyebrows, so she quickly added, “Sir,” although she wasn’t sure that was enough to counter her sass.

She was right because he made a right turn then said. “I’ve let your little digs go unpunished long enough, little bee.”

What the hell does that mean?

“I don’t know what you mean, Sir?”

“You already have a few infractions to atone for, so I suggest you try not to get too many more.”

That got her ire up.

“I have infractions?”

“Exactly, so I’d tread lightly if I were you.”

“What did I do? I have a right to know!”

“That’s not treading lightly, baby.”

Utah stared at him, refusing to back down, which might not have been her smartest move.

She knew he was humoring her when he tapped his chin like he was thinking. “Well, let’s see… you’ve been sassy multiple times—not including right now. But I’ve only dinged you twice when I could have counted more. Way more.”

He’s keeping track of how sassy I am?

She slumped back against the seat and grumbled, “I don’t know why I’m being punished for being sassy. You know you like me when I’m feisty.”

He laughed out loud when he reached for her hand and drew it to his lips to kiss her knuckles.

“You have no idea just how much, honeybee.”

“So why are you going to punish me?”

He didn’t even try to hide his smirk when he replied, “Because I can. Now where do you want to eat?”

Liam

He was lying, he wasn’t punishing her just because he could.

He was punishing her because he liked her—her sassiness, her submission, and everything in between, too much.

Was that her fault?

Not really.

Was he being fair?

Probably not.

Did he care?
