Utah turned her body so she could lay her head against his chest. “It tends to do that a lot when you’re around.”

He knew she wasn’t just talking about sex.

Stroking her hair, he whispered, “Mine, too, baby. Mine, too.”

Chapter Fifty-One

Utah

She woke with a smile as she took a full body stretch. Their Saturday morning routine was one of her favorites. Liam would kiss her forehead before he got out of bed to go work out, then he’d either read or get some work done. She’d sleep in, which she usually needed from being kept up late the night before, and he’d wake her around nine with the smell of breakfast cooking.

Today was going to be another perfect Saturday with him.

The autumn weather had gotten cooler, so she slipped on her fuzzy robe and a pair of slippers before padding downstairs to the kitchen.

“Good morning, honeybee!” he called from where he stood at the stove wearing nothing but a pair of pajama pants.

Utah slid onto an island barstool that was already set with silverware and stared at his muscular back. She would never get tired of looking at him shirtless.

“Good morning.”

He stacked pancakes onto a plate, along with four strips of bacon, and slid it in front of her.

“What are your plans today?”

Opening the tub of butter he’d already placed on the counter, she replied, “I need to go to the store for some Halloween candy. The trick-or-treaters are coming tonight.”

Liam turned to her with a frown. “Tonight? Halloween isn’t until Thursday.”

“I know, but the HOA decided trick-or-treating tonight would be better.”

He snorted as he poured pancake batter into the pan.

“They’re so ridiculous. What, are they going to decide to have Christmas only on Saturdays now since it will work out better for them?”

Utah raised her eyebrows as she drizzled syrup on her pancakes. “I wouldn’t put it past them to try. But I get it, trick-or-treating works better for the kids when they don’t have to go to school the next day, so it makes sense why they’re doing it tonight.”

“Why do you have to buy candy, anyway? We can just shut the lights off—that’s what I always do.”

She set her fork down with a thud and stared at him with her mouth hanging open.

“Please tell me you are not one of those people.”

“You mean the kind who doesn’t like his evening interrupted by the doorbell ringing every two minutes by little germ carriers demanding candy?”

“Oh my god, I’m living with the real-life Ebeneezer Scrooge.”

“Wrong holiday metaphor. And I’m not Ebeneezer. I’m very generous during the holidays, but Halloween is not a holiday.” He flipped the pancakes, then turned back and pointed the spatula at her. “You know how I know? Because the HOA won’t let anyone decorate for it.”

“Well, we’re still giving out candy.”

He plated his pancakes and plucked bacon slices off a different plate lined with paper towels and set them on his.

“Aren’t you supposed to be submissive to me? How do these rules keep getting changed without my consent?”

Her mouth twitched as she tried to suppress her smile. When he sat down next to her, she wrapped her arms around his shoulder and obnoxiously stared dreamily at him.

“Oh, My Liege. Would it be okay if we handed out candy to the trick-or-treaters tonight?”
