No. She was methodical—there was no way she’d messed that up.

Yet the vulnerability was still there, so how else could it be explained?

This time she took screenshots of before and after to prove she fixed it.

Ten days later, she decided to try hacking the hospital again, and again, she was able to do so.

It was a different vulnerability, but it was also one she’d already fixed.

Once more, she dug through her notes to find when she’d performed the work and what week she’d reported it to Liam. She knew she hadn’t messed up, because that particular weakness hadn’t been there last week when she hacked into the system.

Something was going on.

She suspected the sabotage was coming from inside the network; she just needed to figure out who.

And she needed to let Liam know.

Liam

His phone alerted with an incoming text. It was after six, so he suspected it might be from Utah.

He smiled when he saw her name on the screen, but it quickly became a frown when he read her message.

Honeybee: I think you have a saboteur on the inside. And for the record, it’s not me.

This wasn’t good.

Liam: So, what do we do?

Honeybee: I have a few ideas that we can discuss when you get home.

Liam: I’m on my way.

“It’s pretty simple, you just send everyone in the department an email with a subject line that will compel them to open it. When they do, the software will automatically install on their computer.”

“They’re in IT, won’t they know it’s being installed?”

“Maybe. But the software acts like a virus, so unless they’re looking for it, it should go undetected. For a little while anyway. And I don’t think they’d suspect anything, with the email coming from you.”

“And then you can monitor what they’re doing?”

“Yep.”

“It’s that easy?”

“Yes.”

“And it’s legal?”

“As long as they open your email on their work computer, you have every right to monitor what they’re doing on company equipment.”

“So theoretically, someone could do that to my computer?”

“Theoretically.” She winked at him. “But luckily, you’ve got me to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
