She’d still been able to track some of the havoc he’d been wreaking by tracing his security logins.

Liam wanted her to continue monitoring him before doing anything. He’d wanted to build a solid case against the man to take to HR and the board to recommend they pursue prosecution.

“I want the book thrown at him.”

“Don’t you think you’ll be accused of having a double standard, since you advocated for me to have probation and restitution?”

“This is completely different. For one thing, he’s an employee. He has a fiduciary duty to the hospital. And for another, I have no desire to share a bed with him.”

His second point made her burst out laughing.

“You probably should table that last part.”

He’d kissed her forehead and said, “Yeah, I think you’re right.”

Now, as he drove her to the house on his way to the hospital, the mood was somber.

“I can’t help but think this isn’t a coincidence,” she said softly.

“Me neither. He must be involved in some shady shit.”

“Is he going to be all right?”

“They’ll know more when he’s out of surgery. From what Steven said, it’s a good thing someone found him when they did.”

He pulled the Mercedes into the driveway but didn’t shut it off. Instead, he leaned over and kissed her cheek before she got out.

“I’ll keep you posted,” he said before she closed the door. He waited for her to get inside before he drove off.

Utah gave Phoebe love when she walked in the door, then headed straight to her office to see if Leo had done anything that morning.

She logged in but before she could even start investigating, an alert popped up on her screen telling her that Leo had just logged in.

How is that possible? Isn’t he in surgery?

Not surprisingly, there was no activity on Leo’s computer. But oddly, there was on Kyle’s, where Leo was logged in.

She watched in real-time as he hacked into accounts payable.

What the hell?

Once he was in, he made a bogus vendor account for a company that sounded like they sold medical devices. After the account was complete, he created an invoice for $125,000.00 and some change before making a second for $75,000.00.

He then created three more accounts with invoices of smaller, but still significant, amounts. When he was all finished, he’d created over half a million dollars in phony invoices.

Then he transferred the money, using the same account to receive each transfer.

Dumbass.

All while Utah recorded it.

Chapter Fifty-Six

Liam

Being the CEO of one of the biggest hospitals in the country afforded him a few privileges. One was being able to get in touch with the president of their bank on Thanksgiving Day so that they could reverse the bogus transfers before it was too late.

“You just saved us half a million dollars, babe,” he told her when he walked through the bedroom door later that night.
