Even as he said it, Liam knew that was bullshit—Phoebe was staying permanently.

“So, the woman was included after all…”

He shrugged, trying to act unaffected. “We’ll see. It’s a little early to tell. But she is spending the day at my house getting Phoebe acclimated and is supposed to be there when I get home from work. And if I have my way, she’ll be spending the night again.”

“I’m happy for you, man. Hopefully, this will encourage you to not work all the time.”

Liam snorted. “I could say the same about you.”

“Well, I also am a new dog owner—of two dogs. I made a deal with Alexandra—the young woman with the blue streak in her hair at the fundraiser. She’s going to live with me for the next thirty days to get the dogs situated. And she’s not sleeping in the guest room.”

Liam remembered Alexandra. Parker hadn’t stopped staring at her the entire night of the fundraiser. She must be special if he spent the whole weekend with her and wanted to move her in, even if it was allegedly only temporary.

He’d known Parker for almost five years, ever since Liam became the hospital’s CEO. In all that time, neither man had been in a relationship. Something they’d been commenting on more lately as they both seemed open to getting involved with someone.

“A month huh?” Liam wondered how he could swing that deal with Utah. “So, I guess neither of us will be working late today. We’ll need to coordinate our schedules though—we both can’t keep leaving on time on the same day.”

“It’s only for the month.”

Liam laughed out loud. “Sure, buddy. Keep telling yourself that.” He didn’t believe for a second that Parker was going to give Alexandra up when their arrangement ended; Liam knew he wouldn’t want to give Utah up in a month.

His friend scowled at him. “And what about you?”

“Well, Utah isn’t already living with me, for starters. It’s a little harder to ghost someone when you’re living with them.”

“You ghost women?”

“In my day we referred to it as not calling back. But I was actually talking about Utah not calling me back.”

“Wow. I thought you had more game than that.”

“Fuck off. I’ve got plenty of game. But the attributes that women are usually impressed by—namely, my money, my job title, and what they think I can do for them in Boston society—don’t seem to work with her.”

How was Liam going to keep her interested once the sex haze lifted?

Parker chuckled. “I call Wednesday and Friday this week.”

“Everybody leaves on time on Friday.”

“I don’t.”

Liam raised an eyebrow with a smirk. “That’s on you, pal.”

“You think this hospital is going to be able to run if we both get a life outside of here?”

“Looks like we’re about to find out.”

Parker tried to clarify. “Well, for the next twenty-eight days, anyway.”

Liam wasn’t buying it. “The next month—yeah, okay.”

“We’ll see…”

“We’ll see,” Liam echoed. But he wasn’t thinking about Parker and Alexandra. He was thinking about him and Utah. Which was stupid. Talk about getting ahead of himself. He’d had one night with her. Hell, it hadn’t even been twenty-four hours since he first met her in person.

Still, six o’clock couldn’t come soon enough.

He’d told Utah to expect him a little after seven, but he had his assistant, Kathy, reschedule his six-thirty conference call to the next afternoon, and move his six o’clock meeting to five-thirty so he could leave right after.
