Utah: Drive safely. I can’t wait to see you.

She really couldn’t. The entire time she’d been preparing the lasagna, she’d let herself daydream that she was in her kitchen making dinner for her husband.

The idea of being a domestic goddess taking care of a house and husband had felt oddly, well, wonderful.

But she knew it was all just make believe.

Utah was neither married nor domesticated. No, she was a single woman and a computer hacker who performed legal and illegal hacks. “Homemaker” was never going to be a part of her resume.

But it had been fun to pretend, even for a day.

They’d cleaned up after breakfast, and the rest of Liam’s house was spotless, so she’d had the day to spend any way she wanted.

She started by throwing her clothes in the washing machine then taking a long, luxurious shower in his steam shower, adjacent to his regular shower—which she’d dubbed “the party shower” since it would easily fit five people, complete with a bench and two separate shower heads in addition to the wall jets. The steam shower had seemed easier to figure out how to operate.

She slipped on his robe while waiting for her clothes to dry. It smelled like him, and she found herself burying her nose in the lapels and breathing deeply. As her clothes tumbled, she made a few overdue appointments to the dentist and doctor, then once she was dressed, she took Phoebe for a long walk around the neighborhood. That was all before noon.

While she made lunch, she looked through the refrigerator and pantry for ingredients and found he had everything needed to make a lasagna, so she decided she’d make that later for dinner for the two of them. Hopefully his housekeeper wasn’t planning on using the lasagna noodles or ricotta cheese tomorrow when she came.

She had time to kill before she needed to prep dinner, so she read the latest Sue Lyndon sci-fi romance.

It was odd how quickly the day had gone by even though she’d spent it as a woman of leisure.

Making dinner kept her busy so she wasn’t tempted to snoop through his office. It would have been easy enough. The only cameras she’d noticed were the ones he had outside. But he’d trusted her enough to leave her alone in his home all day; she wasn’t going to betray that trust.

It was one thing to do an online search for all the public information available about the man, it was another thing entirely to invade his privacy.

She’d just come inside from playing with Phoebe and was preparing the pup’s dinner when he walked through the door.

Her heart skipped a beat when she saw him standing in the kitchen with his tie loosened and his sleeves rolled up to his elbows to reveal muscular forearms and an expensive silver watch—both were her equivalent of arm porn.

But it was his glasses that she was the biggest sucker for. The hot-nerd look pushed all her buttons.

“It smells so good in here,” he exclaimed as he set his briefcase down on a chair at the dinette table. “I could come home to this every night.”

Her stomach did a flip at the idea of her being there to share in that.

Of course, that’s not what he meant. He just meant he could come home to dinner in the oven.

Although maybe not because as she put Phoebe’s dinner in the microwave and set the timer for thirty-six seconds, she said, “I thought Janice cooked for you.”

He came around the island, wrapped his arm around her waist, and murmured in her ear, “It’s so much more than the food, baby.”

A small smile escaped her lips, and she dipped her face to try and hide it.

He kissed her temple and kept her in his embrace. The click click of Phoebe’s nails on the hardwood announced her presence. Her little stubby tail was going a mile a minute at the sight of Liam.

If Utah had a tail, it’d be doing the same thing.

He knelt and rubbed the pup’s ears with both hands while asking Utah, “How’d she do today?”

Utah couldn’t help but smile when she looked down at the cocker spaniel basking in Liam love.

“Great. No accidents, and she went to the door if she wanted to go out. She knows where her dog beds are and used them to nap.”

He scratched Phoebe’s chin, asking the dog, “Did you have a good nap today, sweet girl?”

Phoebe answered him by showering his face with kisses. Liam laughed and stood up, then went to the cupboard to retrieve a dog treat, which the pup gently took before running to her bed to eat it.
