Chapter Ten

Liam

He leaned back against his chair after taking the last bite of his dinner. He had a full belly and empty balls—both compliments of the beautiful woman sitting across the table from him.

“That was the most delicious meal I’ve had in a long time. Thank you.”

She smiled at him, adding to his feeling of contentment. “It was my pleasure. I enjoyed making it.”

He considered her for a minute. Her face was free of any makeup, yet she was stunning with her high cheekbones, full kissable lips, and deep-set brown eyes. Her brown hair was piled high on her head in a messy bun, and even though he’d just fucked her not more than thirty minutes earlier, he had an overwhelming urge to pull her into his arms.

“I’m really glad you’re here.”

She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear and looked down at her lap with a shy smile.

“I’m glad I’m here, too.”

He needed to wake up with her again tomorrow. And the next day. And the next.

“Why don’t we go back to your place so you can pick up some clothes, toiletries, and anything else you’re going to need this week.”

Her eyes widened. “This week?”

“Yeah. We talked about this. I need you here as my project manager—”

“You don’t need a project manager,” she interrupted. “You need a dog walker, and someone to let your contractor in your house—something I’m pretty sure your housekeeper can do.”

“First off, you’re right, I do need a dog walker. But I need to hire the dog walker first, and that’s something I don’t have time to do, so I need your help with that.

“And yes, Janice could let the contractor in, but only if she’s here. And if she is here, if he’s not done when it’s time for her to leave, she wouldn’t be willing to wait. Plus, Phoebe doesn’t know her yet. I think it would be best to have someone Phoebe is familiar with taking care of her until she gets settled into a routine.”

Liam knew it was a stretch, but he was hoping Utah wanted to be there as much as he wanted her there and would take his offered reasons without argument.

“Plus,” he added with a smirk. “You already said you’d do it for dinners and orgasms.”

She stared across the table at him with pursed lips, and he fully expected her to balk.

Instead, she muttered, “Fine. I’ll go to my apartment while you clean up the kitchen.”

He had no problem cleaning—after all, she cooked, it was the least he could do. But what he didn’t want was her going to her apartment without him and changing her mind about returning.

“Let me drive you. We can stop on our way back and get dessert.”

“I can pick up dessert.”

“But I want ice cream.”

Liam didn’t give a shit about ice cream, he just wanted to go with her.

Utah looked at him with narrowed eyes.

“Are you trying to get out of cleaning the kitchen?”

“What? No! You put your feet up and watch me clean up, then we’ll go.”

Her laugh was like music to his ears. “I’m just teasing. Of course, I’ll help you with the dishes.”

He stood up and picked up both their plates. “No way. You cooked; I’ll clean. My mom and dad were sticklers about that when I was growing up.” He turned on the faucet to rinse the red sauce from their dishes then loaded them into the dishwasher, musing, “Come to think of it, they still are. To this day, my father insists that my mother not lift a finger after she cooks. Of course, he accompanies her to the living room and leaves the cleanup to me and my sister.”
