“We’ll see.”

Liam opened the door and stepped out into the waiting area first, followed by Parker. The first person Liam noticed was Alexandra with the blue streak in her hair standing next to Parker’s assistant Helen’s desk.

His friend’s face lit up at the sight of her.

“Baby! What a great surprise!” Parker exclaimed before leaning down and kissing her cheek. “What are you doing here?”

“I, um, was out shopping, and…”

“Did you get a dress for the awards ceremony?”

“I did.”

“Great. I can’t wait to see it.”

Liam was happy for his friend but couldn’t help feel a bit envious. He wanted someone to dote on, and worry if she got a dress, and be excited for her to model it for him.

Parker put his hand on the small of Alexandra’s back and gestured to Liam. “You remember Liam from the fundraiser? Liam, this is Alexandra.”

She extended her hand to him. “Nice to see you again. I understand you’re fostering our Phoebe. How’s that going?”

“Well, now that you mention it, I could use a little more support. Perhaps a few more in-home visits to help me with her. Maybe from Utah Douglas?”

She looked confused, and nervously looked between Parker and Liam. “We have a volunteer named Dakota Douglas—but no Utah.”

Liam clarified. “She’s Dakota’s sister. She was the one who brought Phoebe to me, but then she bailed when I needed her most.”

“Oh. I’m so sorry to hear that. I’ll send someone—”

Parker interrupted. “It needs to be Utah, baby.”

Liam could see something unspoken pass between them. Goddammit, he wanted that, too.

Alexandra nodded her head “Of course. I’ll see what I can arrange.”

His phone rang just as he was getting ready to leave the hospital for the night. He recognized the number as Agent Taylor, from the FBI, and immediately thought something was up—Mike never called him that late.

“Hey, Mike, what’s going on?”

“Are you sitting down? We made an arrest.”

“No fucking way.”

The agents working the case had all but told him not to expect any apprehensions. These crimes were usually committed outside of the country and thus, their jurisdiction. Boston General’s case wasn’t big enough to get consent from a foreign country to make an arrest.

“Yeah. Picked her up this morning.”

“Her? The hacker is a woman? And she’s in the US?”

“Yeah, right here in Boston.”

“I guess that makes more sense. Why would anyone from Russia give a damn about some Bostonian’s medical bills? Was it someone from the list of accounts we gave you?”

“No. Just some chick who saw herself as a modern-day Robin Hood. Utah Douglas.”

Liam almost dropped his phone.
