He narrowed his eyes like he was suspicious. “What kind of visitors?”

She almost blurted out a snarky, the visiting kind, but caught herself just in time.

Damn, this having to watch what she said and did until after Christmas was going to be hard.

“I don’t know… my friends.”

“Of course, you can have your friends over. What about your family?”

Utah shook her head. “I don’t want them knowing I’m living with you. There’d be too many questions, and I’m a bad liar.”

“So, where do they think you’re living?”

“I haven’t talked to them in a few weeks, but when I do, I’ll just let them think I’m still staying at Amy’s parents’ cottage.” A thought occurred to her. “Would I be able to have dinner with them sometime?”

“Why wouldn’t you be able to?”

“I didn’t think I was allowed to be out of your sight.”

Liam chuckled. “You can be out of my sight, little bee. We’re not going to be spending the day together at the hospital. I just need to know where you are.” He paused, then continued, “And who you’re with.”

“So, I’ll be able to spend the holidays with my family?”

“Sure, baby.”

“You promise?”

“I promise.” He cocked his head. “That’s a long ways off, why are you worrying about that now?”

“I-I made a promise a while ago that I’d never miss another Christmas with them.”

Thinking back to how much worry she’d caused them when she had run away made her sick to her stomach. Dakota had told her that their mom had been so sure Utah would come back for Christmas, and when she didn’t, it had devastated the woman. And their dad.

Dakota had made her swear she’d never do that to them again before her sister would even consider forgiving Utah for all the worry and pain she’d caused.

“What about you? What do you have planned for the day?”

“I have to get some work done.”

She nodded. “I’ll go out and read on the patio with Phoebe, so we won’t be in your hair.”

Liam gave her a wink. “You can be in my hair anytime.”

Utah took her Kindle and the dog outside. Since Phoebe wasn’t normally allowed in that part of the yard, she spent time exploring and sniffing before finally settling on the lounger with Utah as she read Morgan Bridge’s newest steamy dark romance—which turned out to be a mistake because now she was horny.

She wasn’t sure how it worked if she wanted to have sex. Was she permitted to initiate things?

“I guess there’s only one way to find out,” she mused out loud before heading back inside.

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Liam

“Master? May I interrupt?”

Her sweet voice came from the doorway of his office, and he knew before even turning to look at her that she wanted something. She’d never called him master before.

“Of course, you may.” He gestured to the sitting area by the wall of windows, but instead of taking a seat there, she came around his desk and straddled him in his executive chair.
