“I have manners, if that’s what you mean.”

She shook her head. “No, it’s more than that. You’re just so… likeable.”

“You make that sound like it’s a bad thing?”

“No, not at all. It does make me wonder though…” Her voice trailed off.

“Yes?” he prompted.

“Well, you’re sexy, handsome, and successful…”

His ego appreciated that.

“So, why aren’t you married? What’s wrong with you?”

He opened his mouth and closed it several times without saying anything, unsure how to respond.

She must have taken his silence wrong because her voice went up an octave and she turned to face him head-on, a look of panic in her expression.

“Oh god! Are you married?”

He immediately found his voice. “What? No!”

Her shoulders visibly relaxed, then tensed again. “Do you have a girlfriend?”

Liam reached for her hand. “I’m not married, I don’t have a girlfriend, nor am I dating anyone. The reason I’m single is probably the same reason I shouldn’t have a dog—I work all the damn time. While women like the money I make, they don’t like the hours I have to keep earning it.”

And I’m a kinky bastard.

“But you said if you had someone at home waiting for you, then you wouldn’t work so much.”

“Maybe I just haven’t met the right woman.”

“Well, maybe you have now.”

His heart skipped a beat. He cocked his head at her. Was she implying she was the right woman for him?

Utah lifted Phoebe up, then cuddled her close to her chest and kissed her head. “And she’ll always be happy to see you when you come home.”

The little honeybee could try and deflect all she wanted, Liam knew she could also sense what was happening between them. He had a feeling it could be explosive.

Whether that was in a good or bad way remained to be seen.

Chapter Three

Utah

They placed their to-go order online, then Phoebe hopped in the backseat once he put his expensive car in drive. After pulling out into traffic, he reached for Utah’s hand with a wicked twinkle in his eye.

“So, you think I’m sexy?”

She rolled her eyes but didn’t withdraw her hand. She liked how it felt encased by his big one.

“As if you didn’t already know that.”

He seemed to try to pretend to be offended. “How would I know what you’re thinking?”

“I don’t know. I’ve only been flirting with you since the first time you said hello to me on the phone.”
