But the gentle way he made love to her had been a surprise, and she was left with trying to figure out what was up with that.

And how she felt about it.

Hard sex where he objectified her was hot, but it also meant she could keep her emotions out of it.

What he’d done to her last night had been all about feelings.

Then he held her in his arms all night long, which only compounded her confusion, and her inability to fall asleep.

Liam, on the other hand, had promptly dozed off. He wasn’t kidding when he’d said draining his cock was the key to sleeping all night. The man was out like a light.

Which, given his five-a.m. wake-up call, was a good thing.

Once Utah woke up and showered, she moved quicker and was downstairs by seven-thirty.

“Good morning, Sir,” she said softly when she entered the kitchen.

He was sitting at the little table in the breakfast nook drinking coffee with his black suit jacket draped over the back of his chair. His royal-blue-and-grey-striped tie hung loosely around his neck, and his sleeves were rolled to his elbows.

She loved that she got to see this side of the CEO.

He looked up from his phone with a smile.

“Hey! I didn’t expect to see you this early.” He set his cup on the table and stood up. “What can I make you for breakfast?”

“Oh, you don’t have to make me anything. I’m more of a brunch-type girl. I’m not a big fan of eating so early in the morning.”

He shook his head. “No. You need to eat something. Let me make you some eggs.”

She knew wasn’t going to win this argument, so she said, “I’ll just have a protein bar.”

She opened the pantry and pulled out the box of bars they’d bought that weekend.

“Are you sure?” He offered her his toothpaste commercial-worthy grin. “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, little bee.”

“What did you have?” she challenged.

“A green smoothie.”

“A green smoothie? That sounds… healthy.”

And awful.

She took a package from the box, then put the box back into the pantry.

“It is. I can make you one if you’d like.”

“No, I think I’ll just stick with the protein bar.”

She ripped open the package and took a bite to emphasize the point.

“Okay. But tomorrow, I’m going to save you some of mine so you can try it.”

She wanted to tell him that wasn’t necessary, but knew he wouldn’t accept that, so she said, “I will try yours tomorrow, then.” Changing the subject, she asked, “Has Phoebe been fed?”

“She’s been fed, has gone outside, and is sleeping in her bed in the laundry room waiting patiently for Cindy to arrive and take her for a walk.”

Utah glanced at the Fitbit on her wrist. “Isn’t that in like, six hours?”
