Maybe he knew that.

Still, if there was anyone who could get through to him, it was Kane.

“You have a family, and so do we. Throw the gun down and I promise you, we’ll let you leave.”

The tunnel rumbled around us, shaking more dust free from the ceiling.

“This place could come down any second.” Kane urged, lifting his gaze as a crack raced along the ceiling and down the wall.

Panic filled me. I glanced at Kane and saw the same fear in him. The walls shuddered and shook again. A chunk of stone came away, falling to the floor in the corner.

“You want to be here when it falls?” Kane swung his gaze to the guard and stepped closer, opening his hands in a movement of surrender.

What the fuck was he doing?

I shook my head and scowled.

But my brother couldn’t see what I saw. Not the way the guard adjusted his grip, or the way he turned that panicked stare back to Thomas. He was going to shoot him. He was going to…

With a roar, I leaped and slammed into him.

BOOM!

The shot was deafening.

“You. Don’t. Fucking. Kill. My. Brothers!” I roared as I drove my fist down.

We hit the floor hard and I didn’t waste a goddamn second, punching my knuckles into his face over and over again.

A numbness washed over me. All I saw was her face, those dark brown eyes fucking haunting me as I turned back.

Thump!

Crunch.

Thump!

Crack.

Thump!

Thump!

THUMP!

I couldn’t stop, even if I wanted to…and I didn’t want to.

“Riven.”

Blood splatter hit my cheek. All I saw was red as I drove my fury down once more.

“Riven.”

I jerked upwards, finding Kane standing over me looking down.

The dust-filled air that fell from the ceiling was like razor blades, but I sucked it down anyway. “Yeah?”

My brother looked at the mess underneath me. “He’s dead.”
