“You ready?” I asked.

“As much as I’ll ever be.” He muttered.

I didn’t bother to wait. Each panicked thrashing in my chest was another second she could be further from me. My arms trembled as I gripped Kane’s ankles and lifted. He placed his hand on my shoulder and reached for Thomas with the other. I drove all my strength into my thighs, feeling them tense as I unleashed a grunt and heaved him skyward.

He was out, kicking chunks of dirt from the edge free and straight into my face. I jerked my gaze away, spitting the taste of it out.

“Brother.” Hunter murmured from close to me.

I found him at my side.

“Let me lift you.” He said. “I’m too heavy.”

“No.” I shook my head. “That’s not going to happen.”

There was something brewing between us, a kind of truce. Maybe it was even more than that. My chest swelled with love.

“Get the fuck out of this damn hole,” I commanded. “Then grab me.”

“I will…brother.”

Fuck. That word hit me hard, making my breaths deepen. I used that desperation as I bent and grabbed him. Fuck, he weighted a ton. I couldn’t do it…I couldn’t…

I’ll. Find. You.

My own words resounded in my head. I’d do whatever it took to do exactly that. A roar tore from somewhere deep in my belly. I drove upwards with all I had. But I couldn’t get him anywhere near the edge. Kane and Thomas were there, hanging over Hunter as he reached for them.

Cries came from my brothers. I lifted Hunter’s feet again, pushing him the last few inches until Thomas and Kane grabbed him and pulled. I stumbled, barely catching myself as his weight left me and he was through.

It took a second, but then Hunter was back, reaching for my hand as he leaned down. “Your turn. You trust me, right?”

I met his stare, then nodded. My thighs felt like they were made of lead and I had nothing left in the tank. Still, I reached down, grabbed whatever rage or fear I had inside me, and bent my knees. With a brutal roar I lunged, driving my heels down into the stone wall.

Crack. Something under me gave way.

All I saw was my brothers.

And her.

Always her.

Strong fingers closed around my hand and pulled. My wrists and arms screamed with strain. But I clawed their hold with all I had.

Hunter howled, driving himself backwards and finally dragged me free of that hell. The moment I was out, I rolled, catching my breath then slowly pushed upwards, looking around through the trees to where men and women dressed in Armani and Chanel still ran for their lives.

Boom!

The ground rocked under me. The edges of that gaping hole crumbled to fall in.

“Get back!” Hunter roared.

I kicked, frantically driving my boots into the ground, and scurried away from that hole as fast as possible. A hard shove and I pushed to my feet. My damn legs shook. I thought it was just from exhaustion, but it wasn’t. Leaves fell in waves from the trees and a fresh burst of guests’ screams sounded as they hurried for their cars.

“We move, now.” Hunter roared.

I pushed forward, merging with my brothers as we headed for the corner of Coulter’s mansion. The gaping hole from the caved in tunnel was at the rear of the house…what was left if it, anyway.

The side stone wall had been blown out. Smoke billowed out from inside. The bitter stench of C4 hung in the air. I lunged forward, driving myself behind Hunter, and rounded the corner…and slammed into two men dressed in black, carrying a backpack of explosives.
