There was only one thing it could be. The woman we all loved…my spitfire of a sister…Vivienne.

“Go.” Carven. “GO!”

London spun and lunged. Colt followed…and did Carven, leaving us standing outside the cell.

They ran, overtaking Tobias and Nick as they carried Ryth out. Then all of them were running as the tunnel groaned around us

Crash! A portion of ceiling fell behind us.

“We have to get out of here!” Kane bellowed.

“No—” I started until Riven cut me off.

“Not without Hunter.” He commanded. “We’re not leaving without him.”

“Then we have to go…now!” Kane stumbled backwards as another chunk of stone fell from the ceiling, crashing to the floor behind us. “Run!” He roared. “RUN!”

TWENTY-FIVE

Hunter

The place rumbled and shook. Chunks of the ceiling crashed to the floor all around us. But I couldn’t care…no, the encroaching darkness took care of that. I hung by my arms. My head dropped forward and warmth trickled from my mouth. I tried to close my lips, but my body refused to work.

Another rumble came, this time closer and deeper, like we were wedged in the back of the throat of this beast.

“They bomb. They bomb and they bomb and they bomb.”

I tried to open my eyes, tried to force my lids open. But there was nothing but the emptiness. Nothing but the pain…the pain that waits.

“Looks like you and I are going to die down here.”

I wanted to care…but I couldn’t.

Good.

“What?” He snarled, the stench of his sweat and excitement was sickening. “What did you say?”

I lifted my head, straining with everything I had to force my eyes open. Dull, yellow light spilled in. He was a darkened blur, moving closer, until his face sharpened.

“What the fuck did you say?”

“I said…good.”

His lips curled, the whites of his eyes almost fucking neon. “Good? Good?” He roared as the basement around us rumbled and snarled.

An edge of the ceiling fell.

Crash!

He never flinched. He never even looked away, just stood there staring at me with his ugly fucking grin.

“Good.” He bellowed as he stepped away. “GOOD!”

My balls clenched and my pulse sped as he neared that fucking machine and turned a dial. “As long as the power stays on a little longer. Isn’t that right, my friend? As long as the power stays on that…little…bit…longer.”

Buzz.

I shook my head, my eyes widening as the rod in his hand hummed and buzzed. I shook my head as he turned toward me.
