He could be fine with it, or he could resent me.

He slumped onto the sofa, his now spent, flaccid dick resting on his bare thigh. I’d redressed but left my shirt open. I sat down next to him and put my arm around his shoulder.

With his head resting on my chest, he snuggled into me.

“That was so good.” He wiped himself down as best he could and fastened his trousers.

“Are you all right?” I had to ask. I needed to satisfy myself that he was okay with what we’d done.

“I’m really good, John. I haven’t felt this relaxed in a long time.” He sighed and brought his knees to his chest, his whole body now settled next to me on the sofa.

The heat that had coursed through me earlier had disappeared, leaving both our bodies cool to the touch.

I found a crocheted blanket on the back of the sofa and covered his shivering body. I checked my watch. Nine thirty, still relatively early, but my eyes drooped, tiredness overtaking me. By the sound of Liam’s breathing, he’d already succumbed to sleep.

I didn’t care there was a twenty-four-year age gap. Hopefully, I could be what he wanted me to be— the one to take care of him. And after tonight, the thought that I could do that settled in my mind.

My doubts had vanished, and I could see a clear path ahead. One that had Liam in my future.

Five minutes of sleep wouldn’t hurt, and I surrendered to the exhaustion pulling me under, feeling more content than I had in I didn’t know how long.

CHAPTER TEN

LIAM

What the fuck? Who the fuck was licking my face, and why did it smell so bad?

“Liam, wake up.” And who was kicking me?

I opened my eyes, blinking rapidly against the glaring light in the room. What time was it, and who was I lying on?

Whoever it was, they were lovely and warm and soft, like a comfortable pillow.

A finger poked my ribs, and I looked up, right at Drew’s disgruntled face. I should have known it was Perry licking me.

“What are you doing?” Drew asked.

“Sleeping. What does it look like?” Jesus, how many times had I found him and Cindy sprawling on the sofa? I did it once, and he was annoyed.

“It stinks of sex in here. Couldn’t you have taken it to your bedroom at least?”

I wrinkled my nose. He had a point.

“We didn’t have sex,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Well, I’m going to bed. Work tomorrow, and tidy this mess up.” Making more noise than necessary, he left the room, with Perry following. That was rich coming from him, but I kept my mouth shut. He was my landlord after all.

I sat up and looked around me. Other than my shirt on the floor, there was no mess. He was just being arsey.

And John, the bastard, was smiling. He’d heard every word, I was sure.

“I know you’re awake.” I climbed onto his lap, straddling his thighs.

“He wasn’t happy,” he said, his eyes still closed.

“Nope, but maybe he’s jealous he didn’t get any tonight.”

I nipped at his neck, where a couple of hickies bloomed. Shit, he’d need to hide those.
