Page 61 of Loving Liam

JOHN

Both spent, we lay around for the rest of the day. We showered together, and again, I reached for the shampoo. Wordlessly, he removed it from my hands and washed his hair. I knew the reason, but one day, he’d trust me enough to do it for him.

After drying off, we lounged in bed, watching my favourite quiz show. The little shit answered more questions than I did, and he taunted me each time.

“I’ve warned you. You’ll be over my knee. You’re a brat, Liam.”

He laughed and kissed me.

“You love me really.” He lay back down.

My heart skipped a beat. I mentally shook my head. It was a joke. People said that all the time. It was far too soon to be thinking that, though.

Wasn’t it?

We’d been with each other for a month, probably more like three weeks, on and off. I didn’t love him, but I was definitely in lust with him, if that was even a thing.

I said nothing and acted normal, answering the questions as best I could, and when the final round started, my phone rang. Right on cue.

“Damn it.” I searched on the floor for my phone.

“Leave it,” Liam said, dragging me back to bed.

“It’ll be Mama. She always calls at this time.”

“Here it is.” He waved his hand triumphantly, and before I could stop him, he answered.

“Hello, this is John’s phone. Who am I speaking to?”

He smiled sweetly as Mama's voice came through loud and clear.

“And who might you be?”

I glared at him, gesturing for the phone. The brat shook his head and walked over to the window, not caring he was naked. Would I ever get enough of it?

“I’m Liam. John’s boy…”

Before he could finish the sentence, I snatched the phone from his grasp.

“Hi, Mama. It’s me.”

“Who is that delightful young man?” She could hardly contain her glee. I could hear her smile through the phone and knew it would be wide.

“That’s Liam, Mama. He’s a friend.”

I turned to Liam. The smile had fallen from his face.

Fuck. I’d said the wrong thing again, and before I could correct it, he’d grabbed his shorts and rushed out of the bedroom.

“Johnnie, are you still there?”

“Yes, Mama. I’m here.” I followed Liam out of the room and down the stairs, then stopped. Shit, I was stark bollock naked.

I listened with half an ear as Mama prattled on about what she’d been doing, how she and Pops were almost packed and looking forward to seeing me again.

She mentioned something about flights.

“Text me the details, Mama. I gotta go.”
