RS: Yeah.
Thatcher: Awesome. Tell me about it.
RS: It’s a lot bigger than my old school.
Thatcher: I bet. First-graders need a lot more space. I think you’ve grown an inch in height just in the last few weeks.
[No response.]
Thatcher: What was your favorite part of the new school?
RS: The gym.
Thatcher: Gym class was always my favorite, too. Are you going to sign up to play baseball next season?
[No response.]
Thatcher: Can you look at me, please? … Thank you. Are you going to sign up to play baseball?
RS: Yeah, I think so.
Thatcher: I think that would be great. Hey. I was thinking, today let’s draw. What do you think?
RS: Draw what?
Thatcher: Well, considering we seem to be on a baseball theme, how about a baseball field and everything that goes along with it? I’ve got tons of stuff in this big ol’ bag I carry. Let’s see… White paper, construction paper, crayons, markers—I think I even have some glitter in here… No glitter, huh? Okay, cool kid. Let’s draw.
Thatcher: Who’s that your drawing?
RS: Babe Ruth.
Thatcher: Wow! Fantastic. Looks just like him. Okay, so you’ve got the diamond and players, how about we draw the audience in the stands now?
Thatcher: Who is that?
RS: Me.
Thatcher: You’ve got one heck of a seat, kid. I hope you brought your glove… Ah, yes, I see it there now. Who is that next to you?
[No response.]
Thatcher: Can you tell me who you drew next to you?
[No response.]
Thatcher: Okay, fine. Can I ask this guy some questions?
RS: Who?
Thatcher: You, in the picture. Sitting right here behind home base.
RS: Okay…
Thatcher: I understand this young man has had a bit of a rough time lately, is that correct?
[No response.]
Thatcher: I heard that he hasn’t been treated very nicely. Is that true?
