Knowing that asshole the way I do, he would've contacted me by now if Luna had spoken to him.

She might hate me, but I’m glad she listened to me to a degree. I'd even go as far as saying that on some level, she still trusts me. I need her to keep that trust, if only to keep her safe.

Dominic has never done anything to her, but I don’t want to risk putting her in any danger.

Jericho is still looking for Layla. We haven't found any more information yet, but he thinks she might be somewhere in France.

At least he’s doing something. I haven't been able to do anything more than wait and worry and wallow in my sorrow for myself.

I've gone from home to work, trading in one office for another.

I can't bear to sleep in the bedroom I once shared with my wife, and when I try to sleep in the guest room, I can’t do that either. I keep thinking of her.

No matter what I do, I'm always, always thinking of Luna, and I know I'll be lost without her forever if I don't get her back, but that thought is selfish again.

I hate to admit it, but she should never have been with me in the first place.

A girl like Luna shouldn't even know me. The Shark.

So, I'm stuck with the question of what to do next.

Footsteps draw my attention away from the blurred words.

I look up to find Paige at the door.

It's Friday. She's supposed to be leaving early to spend time with her family for the weekend. I was hoping she wouldn't come and see me as I don't feel much like talking to anyone, but it wouldn't be like Paige to leave without checking on me.

She walks inside the office, approaching me humbly. "I just wanted to see how you were. I'm leaving in a minute."

"I'll be okay."

She frowns. "You don't look okay, Hunter."

"I have to be."

"Have you heard anything from Luna?"

"No. And I don't suppose I will."

"Then have you given up?" She searches my eyes with the question, and I stare back at her, taking in the wisdom in her expression.

Paige is the kind of woman who knows things about life. She's seen and lived through a lot.

She's witnessed situations like mine many times over. To her, I'm probably just another character in the game of life, so she knows I fucked up, and I know she wants me to fix it.

"I don't know, Paige. I don't know if I've given up or not. I don't want to give up."

"Then don't." She smiles and pulls out a folded piece of pink paper.

Before she even unfolds it, I recognize it. It's Luna's bucket list. Paige holds it up and points at the section of things that haven't been ticked off yet.

"It looks like you have a few more things on this list to do," she states, then hands it to me.

I gaze at the list, my heart warming with anticipation because it's a piece of Luna. When I first saw this list months ago, I immediately excluded myself from all the things that would've mattered to her.

Now as I'm looking at them, I would give anything to share all those life experiences with my wife.

"You should have those things with her, Hunter." Paige points out. "Regardless of what’s happened between you, I believe you still can."
