"I want to be the guy who completes this list with you," he declares. "I don't care how long it takes for you to forgive me, but I won't stop trying until you do. You're mine, so I can't lose you, and I won't stand back and watch you be with anyone else besides me."

The strength of his words sends shivers throughout my body. His eyes lock with mine, and desire reminds me that Hunter was always the guy.

That list wouldn't be complete without him because he's the only person I want to be with. No one else.

"You are all I care about, Luna,” Hunter adds. “So, please give me another chance to be the man you deserve. Just a chance. I swear you won’t regret it."

He’s the guy I want, and I love him, so there’s nothing to think about.

"Okay..." I nod. “I will.”

Hunter smiles up at me and pushes to his feet, then he holds my face, gazing at me lovingly.

"Thank you. I swear to you I will never, ever hurt you again. I love you with all my heart, and I plan to spend every day making sure you know that."

Hearing his declaration of love now feels the way I dreamed it would.

"I love you, too," I tell him, and he leans forward to kiss me.

"Come home with me," he whispers over my lips. "Come back with me now."

"Okay."

I want to dive into the warmth flowing between us and get lost in it. Then I remember I can't. I can't be happy yet.

I still have my father to worry about, and Layla is officially missing. That dreadful thought sinks into my soul, and I feel sick again.

"Hunter, my father and Layla," I can barely say their names.

"I'm still looking for Layla. Jericho is helping me, so, please try not to worry. As for your father, leave him to me. Okay?"

Darkness flashes in his eyes that almost scares me. It displays the wealth of his hatred for my father. The other day, it shocked me, and I wished it weren't there, but Dad has brought this on himself.

"Okay,” I agree because I’m more worried about Layla. Not him.

Hunter and I spend the rest of the night together.

He makes love to me, helping me escape my worries with every touch.

I fall asleep pressed against his chest in a blissful state I never want to leave, but then I wake to the sound of my name being called.

I open my eyes and find Hunter looming before me with a troubled look on his face. I sit up, my heart pounding against my ribcage with the fear of what he’s going to tell me.

"What's happened?" I blurt.

"I found Layla," he replies. "Your father has her locked away in a mental institution in France."

Chapter 32

Luna

My mind has been a fragile mess from the moment Hunter told me where Layla was. We left the house and boarded his private jet two hours later.

Joining us are his friend Jericho and a tall, tattooed Russian guy I didn't need to be told must be part of some kind of mafia. The symbols on his tattoos gave him away. I'd seen those symbols on TV shows and articles on the net. His name is Virgo Antonov.

He's actually the one who found Layla, so his presence doesn't scare me the way it would most people.

Meeting him has highlighted the gravity of the situation and the lengths we’ve had to go to, to find my sister.
