“Don’t tell me that wasn’t intense for you.” He sighs and shrugs out of his suit jacket.

“Of course it was fucking intense.” I get up and sit on the edge of the desk.

“Good to know.” He blows out a ragged breath. “This marriage bullshit is throwing me off my game.”

Father has been talking about the marriage clause for years so that we’d be prepared but I don’t think anything can prepare you for an arranged marriage. Especially when you don’t want it. The two of us have tried to find a way out where we could still get what we wanted. Our efforts were to no avail.

Grandfather was a clever man. He wanted things a certain way and no one, but no one, was going to get around his plans. Not even the likes of me—Wall Street’s Shark.

“What’s going on with you and Priscilla?”

Asher’s face hardens with distaste. “Nothing, and I want to keep it that way. The less I see of her, the better. She feels the same way about me so I guess that’s something we can agree on.”

“You seriously can’t work together?”

He shakes his head. “Fuck no. We’re thinking of how we can stay apart after the wedding and keep up the pretense that we’re together.”

I give him a skeptical stare. “Good luck getting around that with Father.”

“I’ll think of something. There’s nothing I hate more than feeling trapped.”

“I know what you mean.” Come Sunday, Luna will be in my home, then we’ll be planning our wedding.

Asher’s brows knit. “At least you get to pick your wife. I just wish you didn’t pick Bianchi’s daughter. Regardless of your plans. You could have even picked a wife you love.”

No. Love will never be a part of my life. I made that mistake once before and never will again.

Asher is well versed in my past with my ex-girlfriend Alexis, and my ex-best friend, Jackson.

I suppose like most people Asher probably believes I’ve moved past it because I don’t talk about them. Ever.

Alexis and I have been over for more years than we were together, but every lesson learned from my disaster of a relationship with that vindictive bitch turned my heart to stone.

Finding your best friend fucking your fiancée will do that to you. Them getting married sealed the deal. But that wasn’t the only thing Alexis Winters did to fuck with me.

For that, I take the news of her and Jackson’s upcoming divorce as a comeuppance, for which I have no sympathy.

“Luna Bianchi is a pawn in my plot.” I push the wasted thoughts on my past out of my mind. “She’s a pretty little diversion I’ll need until I don’t.”

Asher hits me with a sly smile. “Since you feel that way, here’s a pre-wedding gift.” He takes out his phone and sends me a message.

“What’s this?”

“A tracker for her phone. You mentioned the love interest, soldier boy Ryan. Thought you could have fun with that.”

I smile, although Asher is the one with the twisted sense of reasoning. He’ll spy and watch people to catch them out. It’s what makes him so good at fraud detection and making sure we make the best investment deals. In that sense he’s similar to Jericho Grayson. He can’t do above board tech shit like Jericho can, but Asher is good with things like this.

I take out my phone and open it to his messages. I find the one he just sent and click on the link inside.

It takes me to Luna’s phone. There’s a log of all her calls, messages and email accounts she has stored in her phone.

“Should I even bother to ask how you came by this?” I chuckle, scrolling through the call log.

“It’s best you don’t know.” Asher laughs. “That gives you access to everything. Live.”

As if on cue, a text message comes through with a beep. I open it, and surprise, surprise, it’s from the soldier boy—Ryan.

The little prick should know by now that his former beloved is mine but he’s messaging her to meet at work in an hour. Work—as in the place where Dominic is and where I’m supposed to meet him to sign the contracts.
