Unless it’s not strange to hear such a thing. Men like Hunter can have anything they want, whenever they want. That includes people.

I’m led into the kitchen where she introduces me to the kitchen staff then we head to the sunroom where a little table is ready and waiting for me with a pot of tea and light sandwiches on a rectangular tiered stand.

“Eat, and I’ll come and get you in twenty minutes.” Paige points at the sandwich tower.

“Thanks.”

“You are welcome, dear.”

She leaves me and I sit in the wicker chair.

Although I’m in a place I don’t know, I’m glad for a moment to myself. And for the food. I didn’t have breakfast after I read the postcard. Not even coffee.

The aroma wafting around me reminds me that I woke up hungry because I didn’t have dinner last night.

I pour some tea, which smells like the sweetest honey mixed with roses. It tastes exactly as it looks and I savor it.

I grab a chicken sandwich and practically shove it down my throat when I taste the burst of delicious flavors. I grab another and do the same, then another.

It’s like I’ve never tasted food before.

Both Kimberly and Jenna are amazing cooks but these mere sandwiches have a gourmet taste fit for heaven.

Once I’ve eaten enough I feel a little better. As in I’m not hungry anymore.

But that’s it. My problems are still there, and now that I’m here in the dragon’s lair I have to think about what being here means for me from now on.

That’s the part that’s going to be hard.

I guess I’ll know more when I see Hunter, but I wish I knew what to expect.

True to her word, Paige is back within twenty minutes, then my tour begins and I’m further astounded by the beauty of Le Blanche Manor which has eight bedrooms, two reception rooms, a piano room, a tennis court, a courtyard, private access to the beach, and a sailing yacht.

My favorite place, however, is the library.

Nestled in the heart of the manor, it’s like a hidden jewel of knowledge and serenity.

It has tall, stained-glass windows, and is lined with towering oak shelves of countless volumes of books and books and books for as far as my eyes can see.

A grand staircase leads to the upper levels, and ladders are attached to each aisle. But the thing I love even more is the plush velvet sofa area in the alcove by the window. There I could see myself escaping in a book or a million when I need to.

My tour lasts over two hours because Paige gives me all the intriguing details of the property, including a history lesson.

Apparently this home is one of the oldest in the area, and Hunter had parts of it modified to give it an older appearance, like some of the centuries-old homes in New York.

When Paige takes me back upstairs, she seems more comfortable with me. I am too with her.

“This is where your tour ends.” She points to one of the doors of what I thought was the main bedroom we passed earlier, but the door was closed. It’s open now and I spot some of my boxes inside. “The maids should have unpacked all your things by now.”

“Oh, wow. I didn’t expect them to do that.”

“We are at your beck and call.” She makes a show of curtseying and I chuckle. “Go on in and let me know if there’s anything you need.”

She waves me inside so I walk in, but as soon as my eyes land on the dark wooden furniture and the king-size bed in the center of the room, something feels off.

I glance around the room and take in how much like Hunter it seems.

It even has his scent clinging to the air, more so than any other room in the house. A thought hits me that there could be a reason for that and my stomach tightens.
