“Probably not, but there are some ground rules I need to lay down when it comes to your beloved Ryan. He can come to the wedding and you can work with him within reason, but that’s it.”

“What do you mean by that’s it?”

“I mean you aren’t to see him outside of work.”

I stare him down, feeling my temper rising. “Are you actually telling me I can't be friends with Ryan?"

“Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.”

My skin heats as if someone shoved burning coals on me. "What the hell is the matter with you? Ryan and I have always been in each other’s lives. He’s my friend.”

“He wants to fuck you.”

Hunter says those words with such ease it takes a second for my mind to process what he actually said. When I do my mouth falls open and all I can do is stare back at him in complete surprise.

“You are unbelievable. Did he tell you that?”

“He didn’t need to.”

“That is your opinion.”

“It’s a fucking fact.” His eyes widen. “And since we both know how you feel about Ryan, I don’t want him putting his dick anywhere near you.”

“Oh my God, you are such an asshole.”

“Yes, I’m an asshole who won’t have his wife embarrassing him by hopping in bed with Captain America every chance she gets.”

I can’t believe what I’m hearing. How dare he talk to me like this? “What about you? Do I get a say in who you see? Were you really working last night? Or were you in some woman’s bed? For all I know, you could have gone running back to Alexis Winters to comfort her in her time of need.”

The time to shut the hell up and stop revealing that I researched him deeply enough to know about his childhood sweetheart went out the door with my first question. It’s too late to take any of that back and I’m so angry I can’t calm myself.

All Hunter has done is wreak havoc in my life, now he’s sitting there telling me shit and talking to me like I’m a two-dollar whore.

“I’m not a cheater.” He smirks, revealing those stupid dimples.

“Neither am I.”

“Maybe so, Bellissima, but I don’t know you like that. Last time I checked you were seconds away from spreading your legs for soldier boy.”

“You asshole.” I shoot up out of my chair and ball my hands at my sides. Even though my legs are trembling, the anger raging inside my soul is so potent I could breathe fire on him. “How dare you speak to me like that?”

Hunter stands too, as if to remind me that he holds the power in our non-existent relationship, then he gives me a mirthless smile. “I’m just pointing out the truth.”

“If that’s how you feel then you shouldn’t be marrying me. Why in the hell didn’t you pick Layla? She would have been more suitable for you. Why me, I?—”

I don’t get to finish. Before the next word can form in my mind Hunter shuts me up with a searing kiss.

One large hand cups the back of my neck, then his mouth seals over mine. His tongue sweeps into my mouth and I taste him.

Sizzling fire, undiluted power, aromatic coffee, and raw masculinity.

That’s what Hunter Le Blanche tastes like and it takes mere seconds for me to get lost in him.

I get so lost I can’t even remember what I was saying or thinking. Who I am, where I am, what I am.

Hunter angles my face so he can deepen the kiss and explore my mouth with his tongue. He pulls me even closer and like a rag doll under his command, I mold into the hard planes of his body, loving the forbidden feeling of him against me.

Each one of those hard muscles on his wide, powerful torso takes charge of my soft, inexperienced virgin body.
