Or maybe these journals could hold details of other crazy secrets.

Hunter Le Blanche is a young hedge fund analyst who’s about to take over one of the world’s biggest companies, and he’s called the Shark. There must be something interesting here to find out about him.

I pick up the first journal and find it’s full of a bunch of boring calculations and stuff about stocks and shares.

“There’s no way you’re this boring, Shark,” I mumble to myself, flipping through until I reach the end.

I grab the next journal and it’s the same old stuff for most of it, but then I reach the middle and find an old photo of three kids holding a trophy. It’s two boys and a girl. They couldn’t be older than nine or maybe ten.

A closer look at the boy in the middle with the big bright smile and charming champagne eyes makes me realize straight away that it’s Hunter. And damn, the girl… is Alexis. I recognize the other boy, too. It’s Jackson Winters, her husband. Ex-husband now.

I hold up the picture and continue staring at them. At their happy faces.

When Emily first told me about Alexis I didn’t realize Hunter actually knew her from when they were kids. And Jackson, too.

I didn’t know Hunter knew Jackson at all. In this picture they all look like the best of friends.

Maybe they were, until they grew up. I can imagine the tension it must have created for Hunter to date Alexis, then Jackson married her. Two friends in love with the same girl.

Although the tabloids said Jackson cheated on Alexis, he doesn’t seem to have the same ruthless asshole vibe as Hunter.

Surely if they knew each other as kids, they must have some relations as adults. Especially with Alexis and Jackson’s divorce finalized.

The other day when I threw Alexis’ name at Hunter he didn’t comment.

That bothered me more than I showed. I wondered if he didn’t respond because what I said was true.

What if I’m right?

The slithering green claws of jealousy snake around my insides the moment I consider that I could be.

“Find something interesting?” That voice always catches me off guard. It does so once more, startling me so badly my soul nearly leaves my body.

My head snaps up and I find Hunter standing at the door. He’s leaning against the frame, watching me looking through his things.

Shit.

Chapter 13

Luna

Hunter’s gaze flicks between me and the picture in my hand. My lips part to say something but nothing sensible comes to mind.

What the hell can I say? He’s caught me red-handed.

I put the picture back inside the journal, feeling my cheeks heat along with the rest of my body from the way he’s looking at me in the short nightshirt I’m wearing.

It’s not the best choice of clothing to wear around him since it barely reaches my knees and all I have on underneath are my panties.

My nerves spike and scatter. The last time we were together Hunter kissed me. Now he has that unreadable expression on his face where I can’t tell what he’s thinking.

I suppose, though, that figuring him out shouldn’t be that hard given the fact he has every right to be pissed at me.

Damn it. I should have just found the paper and left. If I had, he wouldn’t have caught me at all. I would have had enough time to leave without a trace.

“I’m sorry,” I stutter, still trying to think of what to say that will make me look less guilty. “I came in here for some paper. I needed some for work.”

With his brows raised, he walks in and approaches me.
