"Which is why I should have said no last night," I berate myself.

There was enough time, from when he asked me to dance with him to the ride in the elevator. I cannot claim that I didn't see him punch in his floor number, but all I had in my head at that moment was sex.

How would it feel to finally do it with him? What happens when I throw caution to the wind for a night?

"Well, now you know," I put my forehead in my hand. "You've gone and done it with not only the person you're working for but your insufferable neighbor."

"Do you need me to call again?" His secretary appears behind me. "He already knows you're here."

I shake my head. "No, thank you. I'm…I'm fine."

What is the worst that can happen? It was a mistake. We were both drunk, and we made a mistake. That's all.

Squaring my shoulders, I push the door open and walk in.

Gabriel, seated behind his desk and wearing glasses for some reason, stares at me. I swallow hard as my courage deflates.

He usually ignores me or pretends he's doing something more important, so why the change in attitude?

But it's not just the stare. It's everything about the man. It's the fact that I cannot get the picture of him laying naked in bed out of my mind, his perfect body perched up on one elbow staring at me and the film reel of last night plays over in my head.

It's the fact that I know what he is capable of that gives my body a little shiver.

"Sir," I try to keep my voice neutral, walking up to his desk and dropping the file. "You asked for this. I added a summary page at the beginning to explain the tests I've run and the results. I think we can—"

"Why did you leave my apartment before I woke up?"

My jaw drops and my cheeks flush. "What."

Gabriel points to the chair. "Sit."

I shake my head. "I'd rather stand if you don't mind."

"I mind."

What—when did he get so petty?

Right. He was always petty and grumpy. Now, he's just hard to get rid of.

"I woke up, and you were no longer in bed," he continues. "I thought you might have gone to the bathroom, so I went there. You were not in the bathroom. I assumed you might have wandered to some other room, probably to look at my apartment."

"Can we not do this here?"

Why does he sound annoyed? It was just sex, right?

"Where else are we going to talk about last night?” He asks.

I decide I won't indulge him, so I get up. But his strides are longer, and he gets to the door before I do.

"What are you doing?"

Gabriel shrugs as a mischievous smile touches his lips. He takes my hand and, when I yank it away, he moves away from the door.

"You want to run? Okay. Run.”

I shake my head when I get to the door, I find it locked. But when I turn, he's right behind me with no space between us. I'm backed against the door, with this towering hunk of a man staring at me.

And all I can think about is last night. My eyes, without any master, dip lower.
