"That? Are you still going on about that?"

Purposely and slowly, so she knows what I'm doing, I let my gaze roam over her body. "I don't know. I could be on about something else, but someone is being a coward. What is it, Miss Quinn? Do you hate the fact that you found sex with this annoying person so good?"

The mask of annoyance falls from her face long enough for me to see the truth. Then she slaps it back on.

"It was a mistake. That's all. Now leave, or the cops will pay you a second visit."

I raise my hands. "Okay. All right. Let's not get into a pissing match. I'll be out of your hair now."

She burns me to ashes with her glare, and I return it with a sickening sweet smile.

"Did I tell you I really like that top? If you wear that I won’t mind if you call the cops. It just gives me another reason to come down and knock on your door," I add, watching her ears turn red before walking away.

Who knew Harper Quinn had a weakness? And that teasing her would be so much fun? I muse as I get into the elevator again.

The only problem now is how to hide the fact from Caleb that I saw Harper. I guess I have a thing for pretty tops, who knew?

Chapter 9

Harper

"You didn't look into it when I told you, and now, things are about to go down the drain."

"Well, good morning to you, Miss Quinn. I thought I was the only one having a fine morning," Gabriel says in an irritating, cheery voice as I barge into his office, waving a document.

I ignore his subtle sarcasm and march to his desk, dropping the document on it. "Look. It's all there. You can see that there is a major flaw with the mechanics. If these prototypes are cleared for assembly," I scoff. "What am I saying? You cleared it."

Gabriel cracks his knuckles and clasps both hands, placing his elbows on the desk.

"Are you telling me that what I vetoed and gave the all-clear, isn't clear?"

I nod. "Yes. That is exactly what I am saying. Now," I raise a hand to stop him from interrupting, "When Caleb told me about this project, I was sold from the get-go. But if you are allowing things like this to pass, then I quit."

The severity of my tone has him frowning, and he picks up the document. Watching him go through it, I drag the chair backward and dump my tired body in it.

My perfectionist side refused to let me focus on my aspect of the project alone, so I went and did a little snooping. It took me most of yesterday, but I found it. Not a tiny flaw that can be easily replaced but something that, if left unchecked, would cost the project—

"Billions," Gabriel echoes my thoughts as the document falls to the table. "This could cost us billions if we use it. And that is in repairs alone. What do we tell the investors? The time we've spent working on it."

I shrug. "You tell me. You're the one who gave them the go-ahead."

He shakes his head, frowning deeply. "I made a mistake, Miss Quinn—"

Well, that's a first. Hearing him admit that he has flaws.

"But I would never let this fly. They must have submitted a different prospectus to me during the meeting we had two days ago."

"Shit," he mutters under his breath.

"Shit," he picks up the document and throws it across the office, then gets up and begins to pace, running his fingers through his hair.

Okay…maybe he didn't. When I found the error, all I could think was how overconfident Gabriel Everhart could be, even when he was in the wrong. This looks like someone tried to pull the wool over his eyes because everything outlined in the document was not the full story.

"Where did you get this?" he asks, picking it up.

"It's…" I shake my head. "It's mine. I did a general walk-through of everything over the past five days and sat down to review it yesterday. It was early this morning I noticed it."

His eyebrows climb. "You didn't sleep?"
