My arms moved slightly from Arseny tugging playfully at my stuffed animal. "Hey, you think Mia might like one of these?" Arseny asked no one in particular, probably in an attempt to change the air in the room.

"You're still entertaining that cop? I'm telling you, she's a waste of time and effort." Alexei replied with a roll of his eyes and an annoyed scoff.

"Mia's okay, but Alexei is right Arseny, she's a cop in the end, it won't end well for either of you guys. She's not gonna leave the force, nor are you going to leave your bratva life behind." My words felt like a mouthful the more the medication took its course to where fighting it became more difficult.

A mafia man and a cop, yeah that Romeo and Juliet story's one as old as time. I didn't hate Mia; she was a good cop and a good person with a good head on her shoulders, but she was a cop in the end. I didn't want Arseny to end up hurt in the end because whether I fully admit it or not, I cared about every single one of Stepan's brothers.

"Don't worry about me, I always got plans that work out." Arseny didn't sound fully confident with his assurance, but I couldn't argue with him currently with my foggy mind.

The world zoned out to blackness within a few blinks, and I'm pretty sure my eyes closed on their own accord. I wanted to wait for Stepan, but no fighting the meds. At least I wasn't out for long; at least it didn't feel long. "Where are you two going?" My voice was soft and groggy as I sat up from the couch, trying to rub the sleep from my eyes.

"Shit, thought you said she was supposed to be out until morning!" Arseny hissed at his brother, slapping his arm with an audible impact.

"She is, I dosed her right, maybe her body's just too used to it and got it out of her system faster than average people." I heard Alexei reply flatly with a glare at his younger twin.

"What's going on?" I could see their frantic faces now that my vision had cleared up.

"Nothing, just go back to sleep, I just got called that's all." Alexei tried to reassure me with a fake smile, which I saw through like an x-ray.

"You really should rest Hanna." Arseny tried his hand at steering me away from some silent problem.

"Not until you two tell me what the fuck is going on. If you don't start talking then I'll start swinging." Whatever weighed down my body fleeted as my adrenaline rushed through my body.

"Go!" Arseny shoved Alexei towards the door, the action setting me off.

With a few long strides, I closed the small distance between Arseny and I threw my leg out to kick at him. My foot connected with his midsection, knocking him back onto the couch behind him. Then, I grabbed the nearby vase off the side table and chucked it at Alexei, who made an escape for the door, nailing him right in the back, knocking him off balance and onto the floor.

I tried to make a run for Alexei, but a pair of solid arms ensnared me, and I was lifted off the ground. "Son of a—let me go this instant and tell me what the fuck is going on or so help me I will beat your asses into next year!" My kicking legs flailed hopelessly in the air as Arseny kept me lifted with my arms pinned in his bearhug.

"Why the fuck do all of you Volkovs have to be built like damn trees!?" Even if the twins were the shortest out of the bunch, it wasn't by much, and they were still big and tall compared to me.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!

God damn it, who the hell was spamming me at this hour!?

Chapter 43

Hanna

"Let me go!"

If this were an actual hospital, then I'd be thrown out for my throat-scratching shouts.

"Hanna, stop!" Angel's shout of protest fell on deaf ears as I struggled against her and the others.

"Lisichka, stop it, she's going to run you over." Between holding me back and avoiding an injury from me, Nikolai tried to shove his pregnant wife out of the way to safety.

"I swear to God, if you don't let me see him right now." All I could manage was a strangled cry of frustration as I jerked against everyone's hold.

To say I was pissed would be the understatement of the year. When I saw Angel's messages earlier about something happening to Stepan, I practically charged my way through the twins. I booked it to Nikolai and Angel's place, where they had a little medical house for emergencies like these where a trip to an actual hospital would raise too many flags.

No one would tell me anything, though, just that Stepan was in surgery, hence why Arseny tried to get Alexei out of the house earlier before I threw a vase at him. Alexei was currently in the operating room with some more of their staff and Angel before she decided to come out here to try and talk some sense into me.

Fueled with rage, I decided that I'd had it. If they weren't going to tell me jack shit, then I will just barrel my way through into the room to see for myself. I didn't give a damn about the fact three of Stepan's brothers were on me. Fucking Hercules could be on me right now, and I'd still find a way through him.

Letting out an angry growl, I gritted my teeth and threw my head back, smashing it against Arseny, who was bear-hugging me from behind. The shock of the impact barely dazed me because of my anger and adrenaline. Then, when Arseny's arms still refused to budge fully, I repeated another headbutt, succeeding the second time.

Arseny released me with a muffled curse in Russian. By the sounds of his nasally voice, I probably broke his nose. I would feel sorry if it weren't his fault; he refused to let me go, and I did somewhat warn him.
