“Amazing as always,” Poppy sighed, her voice resonated deep within my soul.

“There isn’t any other way when I’m with you, babe,” I replied, my voice husky as I pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead.

She sighed contently and nestled closer to me, her head resting against my chest. “Go ahead and ask me,” I chuckled, my fingers tracing lazy patterns across her skin.

“I think I might be too drunk to remember what you say,” she laughed softly, her breath warm against my skin.

I couldn’t help but smile at her playful demeanor, knowing that beneath her lighthearted facade lay a depth of love and understanding that surpassed anything I had ever known. “If you forget, I’ll remind you in the morning,” I promised.

She lifted herself up on her elbow, her gaze locked with mine as she searched my face with a mixture of curiosity and anticipation. “Where did you go?” she asked, her voice tinged with a hint of concern.

“Russ Finley’s house,” I replied, meeting her gaze with unwavering honesty.

“Dove’s dad?” she asked, her eyes widening slightly in surprise.

I nodded, reaching out to brush a stray strand of hair away from her face. “Yes, he set up a meeting with Boone and Gibbs for me.”

A small gasp escaped her lips. “Well, it must have gone well because you’re in bed with me, and I didn’t see your mugshot on the news,” she remarked, a hint of relief creeping into her voice.

“I think we came to an understanding,” I replied, a sense of satisfaction settling over me as I reflected on the outcome of the meeting. I was pretty sure tonight had been a turning point for the club.

“You didn’t...” she began, her voice trailing off as she hesitated to voice her fears.

“No one died tonight, Poppy,” I reassured her, reaching out to gently cup her cheek in my hand. “All we did was talk.”

“Does this mean I can go back to my apartment?” she asked, her eyes searching mine for reassurance.

I hesitated for a moment; the thought of her leaving filled me with a sense of emptiness. “Well, I mean, I would give it a few days, but if you want to...” I trailed off, unable to bring myself to speak the truth of what I really wanted.

Her gaze never wavered as she met my eyes with determination. “Do you want me to?” she countered.

I felt my heart skip a beat. “Remember how I said I don’t play games or hard to get?” I began, my voice steady.

She nodded, her eyes never leaving mine as she waited for my response.

“I don’t want you to leave,” I confessed; the words tumbled from my lips with a raw honesty that took me by surprise. “I want you to stay right here in my bed until we’re both ninety and can’t walk anymore, but I can still fuck you.”

Her laughter filled the room, a sweet melody that washed over me like a warm embrace. “At ninety?” she teased, her eyes sparkling with mischief. “I think we’re both going to struggle just to stay alive at that age, Yarder.”

“You might be right, babe, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to try,” I replied, a smile playing at the corners of my lips as I pulled her close, savoring the feel of her body pressed against mine.

She leaned in to kiss me, her lips soft and sweet against mine as she whispered the words I had longed to hear. “Then I guess I’ll just stay right here. We’ve got about fifty years until we’re ninety.”

I felt a surge of joy course through me at her words, knowing that in that moment, our love was unbreakable, our bond unshakeable. “I love you, Poppy,” I murmured, my voice barely a whisper as I pressed my lips to hers in a tender kiss.

“I love you too, Yarder.”

Chapter Twenty-Three

Poppy

The sound of laughter and the clacking of pool balls filled the air as Rocky and I squared off for another game. Yarder sat nearby while Aero was occupied with Davidson, engaged in a fierce game of tug o’ war, while Sloane cozied up on the couch with Harley.

“You’re going down this time,” Rocky teased, lining up his shot with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes playfully, gripping my cue and applying chalk to the tip. “We’ll see about that,” I retorted.

But before either of us could take our shots, the sharp crack of a gunshot pierced through the atmosphere, freezing us all. My heart lurched in my chest, and I exchanged a panicked glance with Yarder before the guys bolted out the door with hurried shouts for us to stay in the clubhouse.
