“Wait,” she called out and, idiot that he was, he turned back around and immediately wished he hadn’t.

“Will you teach me?” she asked with those damn brown eyes swimming in tears.

Her question had his mind spinning with all the possibilities of what he could teach her. Innocence oozed from her very pores. Dirtying her up would be his pleasure—and hers as well. Somehow he didn’t think that was what she was talking about. “Teach you what?”

“To drive. Will you teach me to drive Liza?”

Dozer reared back, a look of horror surely forming on his face and firmly replied, “Hell, no!” before escaping into his house.

Demonte

“Come in,” Demonte barked, moving his eyes away from the financials he’d been going over to see Elio, his second-in-command enter his hotel room.

“Hey, boss. I got the report you wanted, but frankly there’s not much to tell about the Princess’ reason for being here but there is an interesting side note.” Elio placed the folder on his desk.

Demonte flipped it open and Elio was correct. There wasn’t much. He studied the picture of Janel outside a secondhand store with her arms full of plastic bags. She looked extremely out of place compared to the extravagant places he usually saw her. The next set of photos had his brow rising. “Who the hell gave her a car? Does she even know how to drive?”

Elio chuckled. “From the way she drove home and the state of her neighbor’s house, I’d say she’s mayhem behind the wheel and has no fucking business driving. As for who gave her a car, the dealership happily looked the other way when she started throwing money around.”

“What happened with her neighbor’s house?”

“She ran into it. She’s fine, but both the car and the house will see hefty repair bills. And here’s where it gets interesting.”

He turned to the next picture. It showed Janel standing beside the wreck and then the next was a close-up of the man he assumed was the neighbor. He looked closer at the man, feeling as if he should recognize him. Then his gaze narrowed in on the man’s cut—the Kings of Chaos patch sewn to the front—and it hit. The man in question was a known thorn in his side. “Dozer.”

“Right. What are the chances?” Elio asked.

Fate and chance were not things he could afford to put stock in. “Not fucking likely,” he said absently as he worked through what they knew. None of this made sense. “Have you spoken with our contact in the palace?”

“We have and they didn’t know why the princess was in America. The trip happened suddenly and no official announcements or travel itinerary were made. Whatever the reason for her visit, it’s not an official one.”

“Which leads us to believe it’s a more personal reason for her stay.”

What are you doing here, Princess?

She had no idea of the danger she was in. That’s why his brother had made him promise to keep her safe. And he would keep that promise.

“You know what to do. Keep somebody on her and find out all you can. As for Dozer…” He paused. That part of the puzzle didn’t fit. Or did it? “We’ll just observe for now. I don’t need to tell you my father can’t get wind of any of this.”

“No, sir. You got it, boss.”

Long after Elio left to carry out his orders, Demonte couldn’t get her out of his thoughts and that was dangerous for someone in his position. Plans he’d been working on for the past five years were almost to fruition and he couldn’t afford loose ends or detours.

His father’s reign at the helm had been a bloody one over the years and would soon come to an end. He just didn’t know it yet. The last straw for Demonte was the death of his brother, Jovani. That’s when he’d started chipping away at his father’s empire and now the end was near. There would be more bloodshed, but then it would be over and Demonte could begin the process of rebuilding the family into one he was once again proud to be a part of.

Soon.

CHAPTER 5

Janel

“Why are we taking a walk, exactly?” Rica whined, and not for the first time.

Janel huffed out a frustrated sigh. Since the moment she’d mentioned taking a walk, her cousin hadn’t been an enthusiastic participant. “Why not? Aren’t you getting tired of sitting in the house all day? I know I am. I mean, I came over here to explore my mother’s birthplace and all we’ve seen are a few stores and the house. I wanted to have grand adventures and meet people. The only person we’ve met is Mr. Grumpypants next door.”

“Why can’t we just let our security drive us around? It’s really cold out today.”
