Kye was a great breacher, and he’s always been good with computers so I know he’ll be a great addition to the team. Gates was a medic, but he’s extremely proficient with any firearm. He’ll be good in a bad situation, and he’s like a brick wall so maybe just the sight of the grumpy giant will be enough to deter any threats.

“If hired,” Anson starts, and I laugh. “What would you bring to the team?”

“Guns,” Gates says with a straight face, and I laugh silently.

“What would you say is your biggest weakness?” Anson asks, and I cover my face with my hand.

“My intolerance for assholes,” Gate deadpans, staring straight at Anson, and I lose it.

Anson grins, and I know that the interview is over. I’m surprised that he asked more than one question, if I’m being honest.

“When do we start?” Gates asks.

“Tomorrow. We have a new client that we’ll be working on starting tomorrow morning so be here bright and early.”

“You got it, boss,” Kye says, and I lean back in my chair. “Is it lunchtime yet?”

“Yes,” I say, pushing to my feet.

“Where are we going?”

“Burgers,” Gates says, and I look at Anson, shrugging.

“Works for me.”

Gates phone dings and he pulls it out.

“Who the heck is texting you? Everyone that you like is in this room,” Kye jokes and Gates rolls his eyes.

“It’s Dillon,” he says in that gruff voice of his.

“Ah, the girlfriend,” Kye says and I grin.

“Not my girlfriend. Girl. Friend,” Gate stresses.

Dillon and Gates have been friends for forever. It was a well known fact that he was in love with her, but he has yet to make a move on her.

“She might be coming to Los Angeles,” Gates says as he texts her back.

“Is that why we moved here?” Kye asks, looking outraged. “I’m battling hours of traffic everyday so that you might be in the same city as your girl friend who is not your girlfriend?”

Gates just shrugs, already heading for the door. Kye is still giving him shit as Anson locks the door and I can’t help but laugh.

Man, I didn’t realize how much I missed them.

I smile as I head out with my friends, but the whole time, I’m rehearsing what I want to say to Quinn when I see her.

“Hey, it will be okay,” Anson tells me quietly as we head over to our cars.

“What?” I ask, blinking up at him.

“Whatever you’re freaking out about. It will be okay.”

He claps me on the back, and I smile as I climb into my car.

He’s right. It will all work out.

Because I won’t accept any other outcome.
