Davis groans, his hips jerking up against my butt and I grind down against him. His tongue slips inside my mouth, and then I’m the one moaning as I get lost in the taste of him. Just like that, I’m lost in a Davis haze.

I lose track of time and everything else as we kiss. It’s just me and Davis in our own erotic world. I never want to leave.

A car horn blares nearby and I reluctantly pull away from Davis. We’re parked outside of Bees Knees Flower Shop and I climb off of Davis’s lap.

“I’ll see you at four,” he tells me and I nod.

“Thanks for the ride, Max,” I call as I climb out.

“Of course, Mrs. Michaels.”

I pause at his words.

Mrs. Michaels. I like the sound of that.

Davis gives me a knowing look and I bite back a grin as I close the door and head inside the flower shop.

“Izzy!” Clara calls as I head behind the counter. “Are you feeling better, dear?”

“Much,” I say.

I feel a little bad that I lied and called in sick over the weekend, but spending that time with Davis was well worth it.

“Where would you like me to start?” I ask her.

“We have the orders for the bouquets today. Why don’t you get started on those up front while I do inventory in the back.”

“Sure thing.”

I tie my apron on and grab the stack of bouquet orders. I’m halfway through the first one when the door opens. I paste on a smile, turning to greet the new customer. As soon as my eyes lock on Clark, my stomach drops, along with my smile.

I had almost forgotten about him and the whole porn set, fluffer, debacle. I heard Davis talking to his mom about him and what happened on the phone that first night and they were whispering about it again at dinner last night.

“Hey,” Clark says and he sounds contrite.

Maybe he realizes that he messed up the other day and is trying to make amends.

“I wanted to apologize for what happened on Friday. I didn’t realize that you were Davis’s girlfriend when I hired you,” he says and I shake my head.

“I wasn’t. I just met him then in the apartment,” I tell him.

Maybe I shouldn’t have told him that. I’m not sure what Davis wants him to know.

“Still, I shouldn’t have been doing all of that. I was just desperate and trying to make ends meet,” he says, hanging his head in shame.

I soften a bit. I can understand that. I mean, I was only there in the first place because I was desperate and trying to make ends meet myself.

“It’s okay. Things worked out, I guess. I met Davis and things have been great so maybe it was fate or something,” I tell him, smiling to try to show that we’re okay.

“Listen, I wasn’t going to say anything, it doesn’t seem like my place, but you seem like a really nice girl and I can’t bear to think about him hurting you. Call it me trying to make it up to you, but I just have to warn you about Davis.”

My stomach starts to cramp and I shift from foot to foot, not sure what to say or what to think.

“Warn me about what?” I ask him.

I’m trying to stay positive, to not freak out, but already doubt is starting to fill me.

“Davis… he has a habit of doing this. He picks a girl and treats her like a queen, like she’s the only woman in the world for him, but it never lasts long. Usually it’s a long weekend, or maybe a week at best,” he tells me.
