“Really?”

“Really. Last night was the most memorable I’ve had since forever.”

She huffs a laugh. “Now I know you’re bullshitting.”

“You didn’t enjoy yourself?” I lower my voice. “Because I swear, I made you come all over my cock.”

Her breath catches, and my dick stirs at the memory of that sweet pussy and how I fucked her throat. Movement from the corner of my eye throws a metaphorical bucket of water over my libido, and I glance down at what’s left of the pool of blood.

“Ask Dominic to show you footage of that cop at the gates, trying to force his way in to get to you,” I say. “Then you’ll see the real bad guy.”

“Alright.” She pauses. “Will I really see you tomorrow?”

“We’ll eat breakfast together on the patio and then I’ll let you take some sketches. How does that sound?”

“Perfect,” she says, sounding more relaxed. “And please tell Dominic to connect your phone to the Wi-Fi.”

“Alright, baby. Pass the phone back to him.”

I wait for Dominic to speak before reminding him to give Emberly anything she wants, as long as she stays within the grounds. I also ask him to show her clips of this morning’s encounter with the cops.

When I hang up, Gil is at my side, his shirt spattered with blood. “Everything okay, boss?”

“How quickly can we convert the pool house into an art studio?”

He frowns. “That’s where Cesare keeps his kinky furniture. Last I heard, he’s still entertaining a woman.”

I grind my teeth. “Order all the art supplies someone needs to paint and tell my brother to move his dungeon to the basement like every self-respecting pervert.”

Gil hooks his thumb toward the door. “You sure about this, boss? I thought you’d want to relocate the lab?—”

“The lab can wait. I want the art studio ready by tomorrow morning.”

As Gil lumbers toward the car, I walk back through the doors. There’s no point in having a meth lab if I can’t launder the cash it produces through a casino.

To get it back, I need to do whatever it takes to keep Emberly Kay from becoming suspicious.

SEVENTEEN

EMBERLY

I hand back the phone and slink toward the guest bedroom, my insides squirming. After the stunt I pulled this morning, it makes sense that Roman would want me watched. I still don’t know what to think of his generosity.

Ugh.

I’m becoming just like Mom.

“Miss?” Dominic asks.

I turn around to meet his gaze. “Yes?”

“The boss says I should connect your phone to the Wi-Fi and give you anything else you need.”

I walk back to him with my eyes fixed on my bare feet and cringe at the droplets of water I’ve left on the marble floors. Maybe seeing Jim after all this time has thrown me off-balance. The man always had a way of making me doubt my sanity.

Dominic hands my phone to his taller colleague, then scrolls through his own handset to show me his photos app. “He also said you should see this.”

“What?”
