But it seemed to me that the magical beast wasn’t a beast at all but a boy blessed with powers he shouldn’t possess, with a voice so tender and sweet that it matched the melody of nature itself. On closer inspection, the boy seemed old enough—young by our standard but a man in the Human Realm beyond our borders.

I cupped his rosy cheek, which clashed violently with his luxurious hair, momentarily enthralled. Until he opened his mouth again, spewing curses instead of a song.

“Unhand me, you filthy thief!” he gritted out, kneeing me in the groin.

Doubling over in pain, I refused to allow him to get away, nearly tackling him to the ground. Luckily, we stumbled to his bed before my weight crushed the omega on the stone floor.

His naked body thrashed against mine as I held firm. It took all my ancestral spirits not to crush him in my embrace. He was rail-thin, bordering on bony, and I had never been accused of being a gentle fae.

Besides, just because I was all but immortal didn’t mean I was impervious to pain. His bites, kicks, and scratches were piling up, and it took supreme effort to hold back from harming the omega.

“Be still before you alert the wizard,” I ordered again, relieved when he calmed down enough for me to tame him. Even screaming, the omega’s voice was like silk against my ears, which made it a little more bearable to endure his beating.

“As if you haven’t alerted Gotham already, thrashing around his territory, you brute,” the omega spat, accusations dripping from his tone.

I bristled, finally grabbing his wrists again as he attempted to slap me. This wasn’t that bastard’s territory; it was mine, gifted by the king. Every blade of grass in Elohime belonged to our dynasty.

Even this omega belongs to me, I thought with a frown, wondering how I ended up handling one of my subjects so cruelly.

“No,” I whispered as he sneered up at me, panting, my omega’s wrists pinned above his head. “This land, this tower, even you belong to me. I am your future king, and because of that wicked bastard, my adventures before ascending the throne have been cut short. Soon, I’ll be confined to a castle, just as you are to this place. So no more fussing or fighting or else! I want to make quick work of my task.”

It was then I was again made aware of the nameless omega’s nakedness, his cock snug against my stomach as I groaned. A wave of pheromones filled the air, and I couldn’t decipher if they were mine or his.

With a huff, I lifted myself off his body and busied myself with finding an escape route. The wizard wasn’t here, and while the boy wasn’t physically stronger, I sensed a dangerous amount of magical energy leaking from his pores, flowing from his blood.

He might not be Gotham’s mystical guard dog, as I first imagined he would be, but I couldn’t trust the omega not to be hiding something deep within, disguised by his beguiling eyes. Springing back to the window, my knee braced on the windowsill, I contemplated dissolving into mist—or, better yet, taking the shape of a bird and riding the wind’s current back to camp.

However, the omega’s panic and erratic pheromones stopped me dead in my tracks.

“Wait!” he shouted, his tone losing its feistiness, sounding almost broken.

I paused despite my rational mind saying I needed to get away. Turning back towards him, I was shocked to see him rubbing a hunk of his chopped-off hair with a strange black liquid.

“Thief, scoundrel, brute, lunatic, or a fake prince. I don’t care who or what you are, but Gotham is more powerful than you. Finding this tower is no small feat, but escaping is another story altogether. It’s almost impossible,” he said, wringing the black liquid out over a bubbling pot that looked like ink.

“So?” I asked, curious despite every warning bell ringing in my head, warning me to get away from him and that place.

I stepped back to the floor, unable to avoid stepping on his hair. It overwhelmed the quaint bedroom in every direction I could see.

“So, I’m willing to share my invisibility elixir if you tell me how you snuck through his shields.”

“Invisibility elixir?” I asked, staring into the muddy pot filled with dye.

Once it settled on the test strands, transforming them to a dark black hue, I realized what the black liquid was. I assumed it was to dye his hair, so I didn’t understand his ridiculous claim that he had crafted a potion to make himself invisible.

Is this brat toying with me? Did I rattle his skull when I tugged on his hair?

It seemed unlikely because he said it in earnest. I went to correct him and dig deeper into the ridiculous claim when a circle of light caught my attention. My heart fell to my feet.

“What is that?” I asked, as if I didn’t know, my hand darting out to clutch his as I crossed the room.

My omega tried to yank his hand away, but I held firm, flipping it over. There, etched into his skin like a tattoo, were three white circles, with rays of light piercing each ring from the center. It was a familiar symbol, one I’d carried since birth.

Releasing the omega long enough to pull off my glove, I marveled at the matching ink on my left palm that had now transferred to his right, which could only mean one thing.

“Goddess’ smite! The thought that this brat could be mine in such an intimate way,” I said out loud, once against having to pin the omega down as he tried to run from me.

I wasn’t sure where seeing as the door was sealed and the window would be certain death for him. But I didn’t take my chances, squeezing his hip as I used all my strength to hold him to my body.
