‘Umm, well, she took that better than I imagined.’ Diane laughed as she shrugged out of her coat.

‘I’ll grab us some strong coffees.’ Teresa walked towards the coffee and cake counter and switched the coffee machine back on.

‘Come on, let’s get these tables pushed together.’ Picking up the tray laden with used crockery, Graham placed it on the counter before helping Layla push tables together.

Chapter Thirteen

‘Here we go, strong coffees all round.’ Teresa placed a tray filled with steaming mugs on the table and waited until everyone had helped themselves before taking the tray away.

‘And sweet treats. Help yourselves. I have a feeling we’ll be needing to keep our caffeine and sugar levels up for this.’ Elsie slid two plates brimming with a selection of cookies, doughnuts and cupcakes into the middle of the table before taking a seat.

‘It’ll be fine.’ Diane took a doughnut, biting into before continuing. ‘We’ve got most things organised now.’

Layla watched as Wendy and Molly looked at each other.

‘What? We have!’ Diane took another bite.

‘We have the dress, the flowers and the venue sorted.’ Wendy shifted in her chair.

‘Exactly. As I said, almost everything.’ Diane looked at Harry, who was sitting next to her.

‘Hey, I’m no expert, but people don’t give themselves years to plan a wedding for no reason.’ He held his hands up, palms forward.

Diane slumped her shoulders and placed her half-eaten doughnut on the table next to her mug, the jam spilling onto the tabletop.

‘Don’t worry, Diane. You’ve got the best two wedding planners in the whole of Cornwall here to help you. Plus, the rest of us, of course.’ Teresa, who was sitting next to Diane, hugged her around the shoulders.

‘Yes, you’re right.’ Straightening her back, Diane smiled. ‘Besides, the most important thing about getting married is the actually getting married. If we don’t get everything sorted in time, then as long as we tie the knot and everyone has a good time, it doesn’t really matter.’

‘Exactly.’ Harry squeezed her hand.

Wendy pulled a large sheet of paper towards her and caught the red felt-tipped pen Molly slid across the table. ‘Let’s start with a list...’

‘If we start with the venue, we need to organise decorations, decide what food package you two want to be served, if you want a DJ, and to draw up the seating plans.’ Molly spoke as Wendy scribbled them down.

‘Cake. We need to get that decided on as soon as possible so I can make a start as soon as possible as that will take a good while and it’s not something I want to rush,’ Wendy added to the list.

‘I can make a start on the other things with Diane and Harry while you prioritise the cake.’ Molly nodded and turned to Diane and Harry. ‘Have you given the page boy and flower girl outfits any thought?’

‘No.’ Diane grimaced.

‘How about linking the colour palette you have for the flowers? That might be a good place to start, loves?’ Elsie suggested.

‘Oh, I like that idea. Yes.’ Diane nodded.

‘We can go shopping for the outfits at the weekend, couldn’t we? If we find out the sizes we need.’ Harry picked up his jug and took a sip.

‘That’s a good idea. I’m free on Sunday and can drag the kids along.’ Teresa looked across at Wendy. ‘We can bring little Hudson with us if you’re busy.’

‘Oh, thanks, that’d be great. Then I can come in on Sunday and make a start on decorating the cake.’ Wendy grinned.

‘Maybe we can bribe the kids with lunch or the park afterwards?’ Harry placed his mug down.

‘I don’t think they’ll need bribing. Not when I tell them they get to spend an entire day with their favourite uncle.’ Teresa laughed. ‘As long as you’re brave enough to spend that long with Pippa!’

‘Haha, I’m sure we’ll have fun.’ Harry grinned.

Layla sat and sipped her coffee whilst the sheet of paper was filled with tasks to do. She grinned. It was lovely to see everyone rallying around to ensure Diane and Harry had their perfect day planned. ‘Is there anything I can do to help?’
