“Perhaps we could just live a little. You and me. We’ve come through all of this darkness, this devastation. We’ve earned our due, Morgan. I want what we deserve.”

“No one deserves happiness. Or else everyone does,” I quickly pointed out.

“Very true. But I still want it. With you. Irrationally or not, I don’t care.” He kissed me. First one cheek, then the other. Then my forehead. “I want you.” He kissed my lips briefly, and my heart began to speed up. “You have no idea how much. Or in how many different ways. But I just want you. Tell me I can have that, Morgan.”

I looked up into my mate’s face. “You can have that,” I whispered. “For eternity.”
