“I'll but you have to come with me or I'll carry you out of here if I've to,” he threatened.

“Fine, I'll walk.”

As soon as we entered into the working part of Number 10, Spencer was surrounded by his team of advisors. They were all talking, asking questions, but he ignored them all. He quickly rushed us outside, pushed me into the car, and then we drove off, leaving the staff behind, but of course, his security team followed, as usual. Two of the agents were with us in the car. I had no idea where he was taking me.

We got out of the car in an underground car park and then we were in a lift, going to the thirtieth floor with two of his other agents. I was too embarrassed to say anything, so I kept quiet, watching as we went higher and higher. Then when the door finally opened, I was shocked to discover that we were on the rooftop of a building, and Spencer was dragging me towards a helicopter. Jason and two other agents ran with us towards the door, and then Spencer helped me get inside. He put headphones on me, and we took off. My stomach filled with butterflies. My ears popped, and my heart pounded like crazy.

“Are you okay?” Spencer asked.

It was only then that I realised I was squeezing his hand painfully hard.

“Sort of. So you handcuffed me and now you’re kidnapping me?”

“I had to get your attention somehow,” he said and then reached into his pocket.

He showed me the key, and I felt better after he uncuffed us.

“Are you going to tell me where we are going?”

He took my hand and rubbed my slightly bruised wrist.

“No, not yet. I want it to be a surprise,” he replied and then held my hand which was very comforting.

I rested my head on his arm, and eventually, I must have fallen asleep because later on it seemed that we had to stop to refuel. Some time later, we finally reached our destination, and when I glanced out of the window, I gasped. A familiar Mediterranean island in the middle of the sea looked spectacular, and it instantly warmed my heart.

“We are going to be here for two days, no press, no Maja, just the two of us,” he said in my ear.

His voice sent shivers down my spine, and his eyes told me more than his words ever had. He loved me. He had risked his reputation and his entire career to make me happy, and he’d asked me to marry him, so I could forgive him. I still wasn’t sure what people were going to make of it, but I had to give him another chance.

“Spencer, I've no words,” I breathed out when we finally stepped out of the helicopter into what seemed to be a private airport.

“Say nothing else, just tell me you forgive me,” he said with that cheeky smile.

I slapped his chest, overwhelmed with emotions. Everything had happened so fast that I couldn’t think about us, him and me together as an official couple.

“Hmm, I don’t know, I've to think about it for a bit longer.” I wanted to tease him for a another few hours.

“Are you going to make me grovel more? Christ, Laura, I don’t know what else to do.” He turned me around and brought me into his body.

“Of course, I wouldn’t have it any other way.” I smiled.

“Come on, let me show you where we are going to stay.” He pulled me along and inside a car.

“Bella, welcome, welcome, come stai?” a familiar voice shouted.

“Lorenzo! Oh my Lord, it’s so good to see you.” I stared at our Italian driver, who’d taken us everywhere on the island. I glanced at Spencer, embracing him quickly towards me, and kissed him.

“You’re the best.”

“I know darling, I know.”

Chapter Forty-Eight

Spencer

This time around, I’d rented a cosy apartment in Cefalù that overlooked the sea, and Laura loved it. We didn’t want to be too far out of town, and since we were only here for one night, I wanted her to feel special. My security team was set up in the apartment right next door, making sure that everything was in order.

The apartment was tiny, but it was gorgeous, stylish. When we arrived, I took her straight to the balcony and opened a bottle of wine.
