I decided to go spend time with Maja then and didn’t actually get the chance to Google the term until right before we landed. That was a bad idea, though, because I was so fucking turned on by what I discovered I had to adjust myself on the seat a few times. Also, I didn’t want to disembark the aircraft with a raging hard-on. That acronym literally meant: shut the fuck up and take that dick like a good girl. Of course, I was already picturing Laura on her knees while she was choking on my cock.

Fuck, these romance novels were lethal. I was planning to read some to see if I could become one of the heroes from her favourite book. The next six weeks seemed promisingly intense …

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Laura

Once in Sicily, a driver waited to take us to our villa in a limo. Just before leaving the UK, I’d received a call from Mrs Forrester. She shared that the family was contemplating moving back from the States, as the children weren’t happy. This unexpected development left me speechless. Mrs Forrester enquired about my new job and urged me to consider returning as their nanny if they moved back around November. I promised to think about it, and she mentioned calling me again in September.

What timing. While I loved Maja, I had to consider my own needs. Perhaps, if I took another job, I could contemplate a relationship with Spencer. Right now, though, I would focus on enjoying the holiday.

My excitement peaked as we reached the villa after a long drive. Spencer had chosen an incredible place for us to stay on the side of a hill. It overlooked the sea and boasted an amazing infinity pool.

The massive property was fully equipped and surrounded by lemon and orange trees, and even had a playground for Maja. I couldn’t believe this would be my home for the next six weeks.

“Wow, this place is so much nicer than the one we had last year. Dad, you’ve done well,” Maja said, glancing around the villa, captivated by its charm.

Spencer remained outside, engrossed in conversation with his security team.

“Your dad did a great job choosing this place. We’ll definitely have fun here,” Rupert commented.

“I’m going inside to see if I can find my room.” Maja broke away and a moment later ran inside.

Rupert followed me until we reached the barbecue area.

“I think we should clear the air between us since we’ll be living together for the next six weeks. I’m proposing a ceasefire.” I turned to face him.

Removing his sunglasses, Rupert studied me for a moment. “What are your plans with Spencer? Are you aiming to make him fall in love with you?”

“Make him fall in love with me? Do you realise how ridiculous that sounds? I’m here to help him care for Maja. There’s nothing going on between your brother and I, and there never will be,” I stated firmly.

“There’s nothing between you two for now, but who knows? It’s hot in here, and I know Spencer. He wants you badly, and he’ll drive you crazy until you give in,” Rupert asserted.

Warmth suddenly spread throughout my body.

This was precisely what Spencer had been doing over the past few weeks—driving me crazy. Rupert went on to reveal Spencer’s fear of commitment after Maja’s mother had left him abruptly, nearly causing him to lose everything. He shared intimate details about Spencer’s past. I listened and realised why Spencer often wore a mask. Despite everything, Rupert obviously cared about the wellbeing of the people he loved.

“There’s nothing going on between us. I’ve been in the spotlight before, and it ended badly. I’m trying to be professional around Spencer. Also, I’m not sure if I’ll even stay in this job after the summer.” I felt compelled to be transparent, too.

He scrutinised me as he ran his hand over his jaw. “I knew it. So you’re planning to bail on them. Do you realise how much this will crush Maja?”

“No, it’s not like that. The family I worked for before might be returning to the country. I got a call a few hours ago. Nothing is set in stone, Rupert. Mrs Forrester wasn’t certain they were coming back, which is why I don’t want to talk about this right now. I don’t want to risk Spencer’s career. This type of scandal could ruin him. We started off on the wrong foot, and I’d like to change that for his daughter’s sake,” I explained, regretting that I had even mentioned anything.

Despite the uncertainty, Spencer was a complicated man. He avoided commitment, and whilst I had never been more attracted to anyone, I didn’t want to get burned again.

I extended my hand, wanting to bury the hatchet between us. After a moment’s hesitation, Rupert finally shook it.

“I get it, but whatever you do or don’t do, don’t let him get too involved if this goes beyond … whatever. Spencer wants you, and trust me, he always gets what he wants,” he added before walking to the villa.

I took a deep breath and wiped the sweat off my forehead. Rushing back to the house, I found Maja, and we took a thorough tour of the villa. We had a quick lunch after we unpacked, and then, finally, we were all able to relax outside by the pool. Rupert had gone out to make a phone call, and Spencer was still in his room, so Maja and I hung out.

We jumped into the pool, splashing and laughing until Rupert showed up and took over from me. Exiting the pool, I yawned, realising I was pretty tired after the flight.

Veronica had insisted I pack only sexy bikinis in order to drive Spencer crazy. She must have put a few of her swimming costumes inside my bag when I wasn’t looking, because when I was emptying my suitcase earlier on, I couldn’t find anything that was appropriate to wear. Everything was skimpy or barely covered my boobs. I was pretty skinny and had no boobs, so there was nothing to show off really, but these scraps of material I now had on didn’t leave much to the imagination. I also found a box of my birth control pills that I thought I’d forgotten to bring. I stared at it for a long moment, trying to figure out if Veronica had put them in for me. She must have, because I always forgot a ton of stuff when I was going away somewhere, and I was suddenly glad she’d put them in my luggage. I went to the doctor a week before we’d left. I knew nothing would happen between Spencer and me, but as a precaution I’d decided to start taking birth control pills. We were going to be away in paradise, it was going to be hot, and I definitely didn’t want to get pregnant just yet, so I wanted to be in control if anything did happen between us.

I glanced up at the second-floor terrace, catching Spencer sitting on a chair and staring directly at me, undressing me with his eyes. Swallowing hard, I raced to the lounger and wrapped my towel around me. Oh my God—how was I going to survive this?

I tried to focus on my book, and when he finally showed up, I was too turned on reading my spicy novel to look up at him without his shirt on.
