I told myself to breathe, because there couldn’t be another crisis.

“What photo? You’re not making any sense, Jeremy,” I said.

Then he handed me his phone, and I swore under my breath. Someone must have taken a photo of Laura and me when I had lifted her and carried her over my shoulder back in Sicily.

“It was a private area. How did the paparazzi find a way to get in?” I said, not even hearing my own voice.

“Spencer, we need to do a press release. Maybe you can say that you had a temporary lapse of judgement while you were on holiday, but now—”

“Jeremy, what the hell are you even talking about?” I cut him off. “I didn’t bloody have a lapse of judgment. Laura means everything to me, I love her, and I’m not going to end things with her.”

My heart was pounding as Jeremy stared at me with his eyes wide. I loved her, and I didn’t know why I’d only just realised that, but I loved her so much that it hurt.

“Don’t be a fool, Spencer, she’s just your nanny,” Jeremy fired out.

“No, she's not just my nanny, she’s going to be my fucking wife,” I barked back at him and then got up.

“Where are you going?”

“Out, and don’t follow me, I’m taking the rest of the day off.”

I decided I was going to talk to Laura about Samantha first. I was worried about the leaked photos and the media backlash, they could paint me as a playboy bachelor all they liked. Sure, this whole thing was inappropriate, but no one knew how we’d met. As long as the majority of this stayed out of the press, then I had nothing to worry about.

Laura was in the kitchen, reading a book and eating an apple. She was so fucking adorable, and for a moment I just stood by the door, gazing at her and wondering how she was going to take such shocking news.

“Spencer, what are you doing here? Is everything all right?” She put the book down.

I took a deep breath and dragged my hand through my hair.

“Yes and no. I need to tell you something, and you need to sit down for this,” I told her.

Her blonde hair was tied up in a messy knot, and her green eyes were studying me intensely. I handed her the file that James had brought me.

“I asked my brother, James, to track your sister down after our conversation back in Sicily, and he just brought me this,” I said when she opened the file and started scanning it.

“This can’t be right,” she said, skimming through it, the frown on her forehead deepening.

“Samantha, Maja’s mother is your biological sister, which means that Maja is your niece,” I explained, still pretty much in shock as I stared at Laura.

She lifted her gaze to me, paling instantly. Her mouth gaped open in disbelief.

“How? I mean, I don’t understand, and I don’t believe in such a coincidence, Spencer,” she said, her voice trembling.

I sat next to her and wrapped my hands around hers.

“I don’t think it’s a coincidence at all. James found out that Samantha was actually the one who called you. I mean, she used some sort of device to change her voice. She wanted us to meet, I've no idea why, but I’m going to find out.” I hoped I could get to the bottom of this quickly.

“I can’t believe this, Maja is my niece? This is truly unbelievable,” she whispered, but then a small smile appeared on her lips.

We were both trying to process this, and it wasn’t going to be easy.

“Hold on, how are you going to find her?”

“James told me she’s back in London, so it shouldn’t be too difficult. I need to figure out what she wants,” I added and then took another deep breath. I didn’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but Laura needed to know about the photo, too. “But that’s not all. Right before I came here, Jeremy barged into my office. Someone snapped a photo of us in Sicily when I was carrying you and posted it online.”

Laura brought her hands to her face, releasing a horrified gasp. This wasn’t good, but it was something I had to deal with head-on.

“Oh my God, what are you going to do, Spencer?” she asked.
