He takes my hand and pulls me into the bed, flipping us so he’s on top of me. He kisses my neck, moving down until he can nip and lick at my clavicle.

I slap at him, making him pull away from me. “Garrix, what are you doing?” I ask, trying not to moan as his hand cups my sex.

“Whatever the fuck I want to do. Maybe I should do you… This pussy is so warm. I bet it’s so wet. Just for me.” He slips a finger into my pajama bottoms, then runs it against my sex. “Fuck yeah, it is. Your pussy is so juicy and I want to taste it. Lick it, suck it. Then shove my cock inside and fuck it until you’re done doubting who you belong to.”

I’m losing myself in this man and his dirty words. He’s part of a ruthless society of criminals. He’s absolutely batshit. Getting tangled with him can end badly, not just for me, but for my family. But none of that matters right now when he’s circling my clit and whispering absolute filth in my ear.

A curt knock at my bedroom door interrupts us. Max lets himself in, rolling his eyes when he sees Garrix in his guest room bed. I rip G’s hand from my pants and try to push him off me, but he won’t budge.

“Why are you on top of my sister while she’s pointing a loaded gun at you, in my apartment?” he dryly asks.

“Because she’s an absolute freak.” Garrix gives me a lascivious grin. “She pulled a knife on me in public the other day while we were kissing. It was hot.”

“No thanks for the overshare, you sick fuck. I meant how did you get into my place. Our security is top-notch.”

Garrix gets off me, standing straight as he sizes up my twin. They’re the same height, same build. Evenly matched. “It’s really not, though. This is the third time I’ve broken in. I think someone on your team is either incompetent or purposely left Maddalena’s balcony as a weak spot. I put one of my own men on her.”

Max gives me a look as if to say, I told you so. “Good to know. Well, you need to leave, because Papà is on his way up in the private elevator to discuss an urgent matter.”

There’s a loud knock on the front door.

“Fuck,” I grouse. “Garrix, please stay in my room.”

“Mads, he has to go. This is private,” Max reminds me.

“I have information on her stalker. I can wait here until she’s done talking to Don Vettore. But then she and I need to talk. I’ll see you soon, little killer.” He winks at me, and something inside me flips.

Max’s eyes practically roll into the back of his head before he rushes to answer the door. I can tell from the look on Papà’s face as he stands in the doorway that this visit won’t be a happy one.

Garrix

Istand at the slightly cracked door, watching Maddalena and her brother greet their father, Don Vettore. Even this late in the evening, he’s still dressed in an impeccable suit. His hair is messy, as if he’s run his fingers through it in frustration. The serious set of his lips and tense jaw doesn’t bode well for his visit.

He sighs, sitting in an armchair next to the couch. Max goes into the kitchen while Maddalena sits across from him, giving me a full view of her in her sweatshirt and pajama pants. She’s a fucking stunner no matter what she wears, but I think she looks best naked.

After Max comes back, he hands Don Vettore a glass of water. He takes a large gulp, then releases a deep sigh, as if he knows his words are going to do some damage.

“Your stalker delivered another package today, this time to your apartment,” he informs his daughter. The panicked expression on her face guts me. I hate that someone is making my little killer feel unsafe.

“Okay… what was it?” Maddalena asks, making her father’s face fall. “Don’t spare my feelings, Papà. I need to know so I can keep myself safe.”

“A small team broke into your apartment and trashed it, most likely while you were out to dinner tonight with Max. Your furniture, appliances, clothes, mattress—everything is ruined. The walls are gutted, all the glass shattered. I’ll have someone come in first thing tomorrow morning to clean it up and start the remodeling process.”

Max looks like he’s about to hulk out. I don’t know much about him, aside from him being a total tech and numbers whiz. He’s a quiet one, but he seems to be very protective of his sister. His fists clench, as if that’s a way to hold on to his self-control. He takes a few deep breaths, and Maddalena takes his hand, probably to calm him down.

“Where the fuck was Gabriele during all of this? We took my guard instead so he could secure our apartments,” Max growls, a millisecond away from exploding.

“He said he was outnumbered. The intruders beat him so badly that they knocked him out,” Don Vettore says in a solemn tone.

A few beats of silence pass between them, until Maddalena pushes for answers. “Papà, you didn’t answer my question… You promised you’d never treat me differently or pull punches with me. Tell me.”

The slight tremor in her body betrays how terrified she is, but she remains firm. My little killer is so brave, never cowering in fear.

“There was blood all over your bed. And a carved-out heart.” Maddalena gasps, her face paling. “Luca doesn’t think it’s a human heart, and our connections in the lab are going to make sure. The note attached made it very clear that whoever is stalking you is furious and deluded. Before you ask, I refuse to let you read that filth—it’s already been destroyed.”

Max and Maddalena give each other a long, silent look, as if they’re having an unsaid conversation. I’m not aware if I actually have any siblings, but I can only imagine how close twins are. A pang of jealousy hits me, but then I stuff it away. Eventually, she and I will be that close, too.

“What are our next steps?” Maddalena asks in a cautious tone.
