He squeezed his eyes shut as a mix of rage and sadness hit him.

“Do you know where he was taking you?”

“Same place they took the others.” Luna shrugged. “To give birth. To take our babies.”

To dispose of her. Those words remained unspoken but they both knew.

He dropped his head forward. “I’m sorry.”

“You saved us,” she said and squeezed his hand.

He shook his head, tears threatening to fall.

“No, I didn’t. Ace did.”

Ace had risked everything for them. For him.

Ace

He could hear them talking about him. He just didn’t care. He couldn’t even get himself to move. He’d been sitting on the couch in the clubhouse for… well, hours, he assumed. He hadn’t exactly timed it. He hadn’t been home. He’d gone straight from the hospital to the club. He’d barely managed to send his mom a text to let her know he was alive.

His bike was not only totaled, it had also been tagged as evidence. Griff had shoved the keys to their work van into his hands earlier while Texas had promised he could burrow one of his bikes until he could get his girl back or save up to buy a new bike. He couldn’t claim that he cared either way right then.

“He’s a fucking zombie,” Jace hissed. “You have to do something.”

He heard someone grumble a retort, but he ignored them.

A slap to the back of his head had him jumping and cursing as he rubbed the spot. He looked up to find Diesel glaring down at him.

“Snap the fuck out of it.”

“That’s not what I meant,” Jace muttered with a sigh.

Diesel looked over Ace’s head at Jace and said, “What the hell else do you want me to do? Kiss his boo-boos and cuddle him? The man’s practically comatose.”

“How would you be if you lost Chris?” Ace asked him with a glare.

Diesel crossed his arms. “I did, but I didn’t go into a fucking coma, did I?”

Ace’s glare deepened.

“Yeah, but he still loved you and you got him back.”

Diesel threw his hands up and gave Jace a you’re-on-your-own look before walking off.

Jace sat down on the coffee table in front of Ace, an apologetic smile on his lips.

“Sorry. Apparently, his people skills don’t extend to you.”

Ace snorted, then said, “That’s what I get for annoying everyone, huh?”

Jace was very clearly trying to hide a smile as he shrugged.

“Look, I know pretty much anyone else here would tell you to go after Kody, and maybe you should, but…”

Ace straightened and arched a brow at him.

“But?”
