All four women were on the floor in front of them and the man who’d been on the phone earlier was aiming his gun at them, yelling at them to back up.

“Need a hand, D?” Digger asked.

“All yours, Dig,” Diesel said, and the window shattered.

The man hit the floor, his brains exploding all over the wall behind him. He couldn’t fault the women for screaming their heads off but the last thing he wanted was for them to be scared.

“Hey, it’s okay. You’re safe now,” he said, holstering his gun and keeping his hands in front of him as he moved closer.

They all huddled together, the woman who was in labor wrapping her arms around the others. She looked to be the only one who was over twenty. The other girls looked the same age as Luna, and it damned near broke his heart.

While his brothers secured the rest of the house, he and Diesel stayed with the women. He crouched down in front of them and pulled back his sleeve to show them his bracelet.

“Hi, I’m Ace. You’re Inez, right? It’s okay. Luna told us about you. We’re here to get you out,” he said.

Inez gave him a skeptical look and he could understand why she would be cautious.

“Luna?”

He nodded.

“She’s okay?”

“Both her and her daughter Eve are okay.”

“Eve?” she whispered.

“Yeah. She named her daughter after Evelyn. We’re looking for her, too.”

He snapped his head up when he heard footsteps but the voices in his earpiece told him it was just his brothers returning. Steel walked in first, shortly followed by Ares and Griff.

Inez patted the girls on their backs to tell them to get up, and with an encouraging nod from her, they went with Steel who led them to the van they had waiting for them outside.

Inez groaned and Ace dropped to his knees next to her, taking her hand when she reached for him. He bit back a curse when she squeezed so hard he thought he might end up losing his hand.

“Fuck,” she yelled. She looked up at Ace, sweat dripping down her forehead and panic in her eyes. “This baby is coming.”

He gave her a nod and helped her get up, thankful when Diesel appeared on her other side to take hold of her elbow to guide her out.

“Come on. We’ll get you to a hospital,” Diesel said.

“No,” she yelled, then bent over with a pained groan.

“Easy. Easy,” Ace said, hand on her back.

“You’re undocumented?” Diesel asked her.

She nodded.

“I’ll give King a call,” Ares said and walked away while pulling out his phone.

Diesel guided Inez to sit down on a chair and Ace went to the gross old fridge in the tiny kitchen there to search for anything fresh enough for her to drink. He opened the fridge and to his surprise, it was not only working but there was a whole box of water bottles inside. He grabbed a bottle and unscrewed the lid, then walked up to Diesel and Inez.

“Here,” he said, handing it to her.

She took the bottle with a short nod and drank slowly, only taking a few sips, before she handed it back to him. He put it on the floor and his gaze caught on her protruding belly.

“Boy or girl?”
