Iris: Okay?
I rested my head back against the headboard and closed my eyes. I didn’t want her to be angry at what I was going to ask. I wanted her to be open to the idea of an us.
Zach: Promise me that if you don't want to talk about it, you’ll just say so? I’ll leave it at that in the future.
Iris: Ummm....I sort of have to know what it is we are talking about before I promise you.
Zach: Well, I just want to make sure you know you can be honest with me.
Iris: Zach, care to tell me what this is all about.
Zach: The night at the restaurant we decided to keep this as a friendship, then this past weekend happened and…
I watched those little dots bounce around for what felt like forever, and finally her response appeared.
Iris: Yes, I remember.
Zach: What if I want more than that?
I was holding my breath as those three little dots jumped around on my screen. They bounced, then they stopped and then they started again. My throat grew tight, and I wished I had said nothing because judging from the length of time I’d been waiting for a response, she obviously didn’t feel the same way. Those three little torturous dots continued jumping.
Zach: You can just ignore my question.
I put my phone down on the bed and ran my hands through my hair. I’d been stupid to even think that she’d wanted something. When I heard my phone ding, I didn’t look at it right away, but when it went off a second, then a third time, I finally picked it back up.
Iris: Do you want more?
Iris: Am I reading this correctly?
Iris: Judging from the lack of response, I fear that I probably shouldn’t admit that I, too, have been wondering how you might feel about us.
A smile came to my face as I read her reply.
Iris: …maybe I was wrong for suggesting that we keep it platonic, especially after this past weekend. I’m embarrassed to say that I can’t seem to forget about what happened between us.
Iris: Say something?
Zach: I hope we can have a repeat sometime soon.
Zach: I can't wait to see you on Sunday.
Iris: Same.
Zach: Talk to you soon.
Iris: Yes. Night Zach.
Zach: Night.
I placed the phone down beside me and picked up the financial statements, putting my focus on what I'd been working on earlier. My phone rang, and I grabbed it.
"So, you can't seem to stop thinking about the things we did on the weekend," I said into the phone, thinking that it was Iris. Only when I heard the voice on the other end, I froze.
It was Valerie.
Iris
“Fuck I missed you,” Zach whispered just before his lips crashed against mine.
