I glanced at my mom, gratitude filling me for the relationship I had with my parents. It was great, and just as rare.

“What do you think, Mom?”I asked.“Will you help me with the spell?”

She turned stared at the boys.“I need to take a closer look at them.I’ll let you know in a few minutes.”

Mom let go of my hand and walked over to Dad, who was grinning and wiping sweat from his brow.

The spectator group thanked the guys for the entertainment, then headed off to the showers. The gym shut soon, but I had the feeling the wolves wouldn’t be leaving straight away.

I grinned at my dad as he walked over to me, watching the wolves still staggering around.“You found some common ground, I see.”

Dad chortled.“Yeah.They’re pretty raw, but they’ve got potential.”

Mom patted Dad’s shoulder.“I’m going to speak to the wolves.”

Dad’s eyebrows rose as he twigged.“They’rethe wolf shifters you were talking about?”

I nodded.“Yeah.You didn’t put it together?”

Dad grunted, crossing his arms over his chest.“Now their strength makes sense. It’s not as impressive now that I know they’re supernaturals.”

I laughed, elbowing my dad in the side.“You wouldn’t say that if they were warlocks.”

My dad narrowed his eyes.“Wolves have a natural strength.I had to work at it.”

I put my hands on my hips.“Dad.You know they just lifted enough to beat anyone in their weight division, with no training.Be fair.”

I could have just let it go.Agreed with my dad that being wolves gave them an unfair advantage. But I knew better, and so did he.

Dad glanced away as Mom rushed back to us saying, “Yes!I definitely have to help them.”

My jaw dropped.“Seriously?”

She nodded, her eyes wide as though she was surprised.Or scared.“I had decided I wasn’t going to help you with them.I had no intention of liking them…”

“But?”I asked her, my heart pumping a little stronger and harder in my chest.

“They’re…” Mom stopped to swallow hard.“Important.To you.”

It was my turn to open my eyes wide.“What are you talking about?”

Mom wrung her hands together, flicking her gaze from me to Dad, then back again.“I… can’t explain it fully.I just know that I need to help them, or at least, help you.”

Dad started to ask her something, but she only shook her head and took a step toward the door.“I’m going to find a spell book I’ve got at home. Can you pop by tomorrow to get it?”

Mom waved at my father to follow. He did, with a massive shrug of his shoulders and a perplexed glance at me.

Leo raced after him, shaking Dad’s hand and thanking him for a great session. The frost around Dad’s aura melted the moment Leo grinned at him.

Mason stepped up next to me, chugging down a bottle of water. He didn’t say anything but he radiated heat, making my skin shiver even though he wasn’t even touching me.

“He could sell ice to a snowman,” Mason said suddenly, nodding at his younger brother.

I laughed.“Yeah.He certainly seems to have a way with people.”I turned to look at Mason, his dark hair falling over his face.I immediately wanted to reach out and brush it back.

Before I could do such a silly affectionate thing, I curled my fingers into my palms and put both hands behind my back.“So… my Mom wants to help with the spell.Looks like you’re getting two witches for the price of one.”

Mason’s gaze softened, then he ran an uncertain hand through his hair.“I still can’t believe you’re going to help us.”
