Icouldn’t wait to get back to Tania’s gym and apartment.The very idea that other shifters might be moving in on her had made me as antsy as a cat on a hot tin roof all day.
“You done?”I called out to Mason around four o’clock.I’d packed up my tools and sent the guys home an hour ago.They were glad to leave.I’d been a bear all day.So had my big brother.
Mase walked over, keys in hand.“Hell yes.I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but fuck work.Fuck this reno.”
“Yeah totally,” I laughed.“Let’s go fuck our mate.”
My brother and I turned to the front door.“Let’s take your truck,” I said.“We only need one, and we’ll be back here tomorrow.”
It was Friday tomorrow and thank God for that.I needed a few days with our mate to settle this hunger that was clawing inside me.
We jumped in our truck and headed straight for the gym.I rang her while we drove, but her phone just went straight to voicemail.
“She’s not answering.Probably working,” I said, hoping that was the only reason and she wasn’t dodging our calls.
Mase growled and gripped the steering wheel tighter, the leather squeaking in complaint.“If I see any shifters there harassing her...”
I laughed through the tightness in my chest.“They won’t be harassing her.They’ll be trying to hire her to magic them up some tricks or trying to hit on her.You know we kinda told everyone how awesome she is.”
“Yeah, well, hopefully Billy gets them all sorted out.”
I nodded.That had been a good move on Mason’s part.Telling Billy, whose wife was a notorious gossip, that Tania was ours.It would spread through the pack like wildfire.Any women who still had designs on us would have to back down, and any guys who thought they had a chance with our mate would disappear for good.
When we got to the gym, the red-haired chick was on the front desk.She grinned at us as we walked in and swiped our cards.
“More shifters,” she said, her tone hushed.“Seriously, how did you get our number?We’ve had a dozen of you guys sign up in the past few days.”
Mason and I glanced at each other and charged into the gym.Tania was talking to a man from our pack, James.He was a total lady’s man and had gotten into every available woman in our pack twice over.
Not today.
I raced over to where they were chatting and flirting, pushed Tania back out of the way and got up into James’s face.“Didn’t you get the memo?She’s ours.”
“Leo.Hey.Stop.”Tania grabbed my arm, but I wouldn’t move.My jaw was locked on and my wolf was dangerously close to the surface.
James put both hands up.“Hey mate.It’s all good.I know she’s yours.I can smell you all over her.It’s cool.She was just giving me some workout tips.The woman knows how to lift.”
The red haze began to clear, and his tone and words were making sense.
I forced my arms to relax and took a step back, shaking myself to force my shifter down.“Sorry, bro.”
James grinned.“No problem.I look forward to the day I feel the same way about someone.”
Then he turned and walked away.
I could feel the heated anger from Tania behind me.I didn’t want to turn to face her yet.But the need to fix any problem I’d caused became too great and I eventually twisted to look at her.
She was glorious in her anger.Steam was practically rising from her ears.
“You two.Upstairs.Now.”She growled at us then stormed off.
I glanced at Mason, contrite.“Sorry.Looks like I got both of us in trouble.”
Mason laughed.“If you hadn’t taken James on, I would have.You probably saved him a black eye.”
