“Do you think that we can get that much blood out of a white shirt?” I asked curiously, my heart heavy. “And to answer your question, she had it in a Midol bottle. How was I supposed to know it was a Vicodin?”

“Because you’re in the medical field?” he teased. “And probably not. Shirt’s a goner.”

I felt my heart drop. “My sister bought that for me last Christmas.”

He stayed silent, but he did drop a kiss to my head and say, “Get in there. I’ll go get some of my sister’s clothes. I think Zip’s really close to your size.”

I showered, using his shampoo and body wash, while also making a mental note to tell him he needed conditioner. Just because he was a guy didn’t mean that he didn’t need it.

When I got out, it was to wrap myself in the biggest towel I’d ever seen and look around the bathroom.

It was utilitarian. Like the one that’d been in Addison’s base…

I quickly shut off that train of thought.

I couldn’t keep thinking about her.

Not and get through my day.

My phone beeped from the bathroom counter, and I picked it up to see the group text.

My mom was walking, and she had the grumpiest face.

She hated using the walker.

Addison…

Nope, not going there.

I put the phone down before I could read the messages, turning it on silent and putting it face down so I wouldn’t think about the fact that there was one person in that group chat who wasn’t answering.

“Here you go. A sports bra and panties from Zip. Then we can go look through the extra clothes bin,” Keene said as he popped back into the bathroom, his eyes doing a lazy sweep over my face. “Damn, if I didn’t have to work…”

That’s when I took in his attire.

Dress pants that fit him like a glove. Suspenders. No shirt. Shiny black shoes. Black top hat with a red band around the base.

I gasped as a sense of déjà vu hit me.

“Oh, my,” I said as he took a seat on the closed toilet lid.

“What?” he asked as he untied and retied his shoes.

“Three years ago when I came here, I was sitting in front of your sister, who was reading my palm and talking about fate, when you walked by,” I explained.

His brows rose. “You really saw me?”

“I watched you run that show like you were made to do it,” I admitted. “I can’t believe I didn’t make the connection until now. Jesus.”

“We’re human, honey.” He paused. “And you did tell me that you were high on pain killers.”

His lips quirked as I walked up to him and cupped his cheeks. “You aren’t forgettable. So, I’m kicking myself for not making the connection sooner.”

He hummed, his hands cupping my ass cheeks as he pulled me in tight.

“Unforgettable,” he agreed, looking up at me.

God, his jaw was so spectacular. And the way his Adam’s apple bobbed when he swallowed.
