Sophie’s chin tilted. “It’s super comfortable.”

Penelope nodded. “And it has nothing to do with seducing Ryder?”

She should say something jokey and casual, but screw that. She was too buzzed for subtle. She straightened. “Why? Do you think he’s seduced?”

Penelope raised a brow. “I thought you didn’t want to sleep with him.”

“I said I shouldn’t sleep with him. Not that I didn’t want to.” Sophie ran a hand through her hair. “I mean, have you looked at him?”

Penelope laughed. “I have.”

“Pen, you have to help me.” Sophie bit her lip. “I want him. I want him so bad I’m having a hard time not going over to him and begging him to take me.”

“Awww. . . You poor thing, how rough it must be for you.”

Her brain was fuzzy, and what little filter she had was gone. “Do you think he fucks rough?”

“I’d say that’s a distinct possibility,” Penelope said, her voice prim.

Sophie scowled. “You’re not helping.”

“You asked me.”

“You’re supposed to lie.”

“Well, I didn’t know that.” Penelope crossed her arms. “You know I’m not a good liar.”

“Penelope,” Sophie wailed. “I’m going on a double date with him, what am I going to do?”

“If you don’t want to sleep with him, this would be a good way to go about it.”

That was true. Maybe she could go on a date with Bill but kidnap Cheryl and hide her in the storage shed so she couldn’t touch Ryder.

No. Wait. The double date was supposed to be a good thing.

Evan chose that moment to come into the kitchen, saving Sophie from an answer. Penelope and Sophie immediately straightened.

He looked back and forth between them. “What are you up to?”

“Nothing,” Penelope said, giving him a bright smile. “What could we be up to?”

Evan’s gaze narrowed. “Something.”

Penelope rose to her tiptoes and brushed her mouth against Evan’s. “Nothing.”

Evan’s hand moved around her neck and he pulled her back to him, kissing her more deeply.

Even though they were married now, it was still weird to see them together. They’d always kept such a distance from each other, careful never to even look in each other’s direction, so to see them all gropey and affectionate sometimes jarred Sophie. Especially when they were talking about Penelope, who Sophie had always deemed a bit of a prude because she was so conservative and proper.

Penelope kind of was a prude ... unless Evan was involved.

They were still kissing and it was getting obnoxious, so she said, “For God’s sake, would you stop.”

Evan lifted his head and, still looking into Penelope’s eyes, said, “Sorry, Soph.”

Then he leaned down and whispered something in Penelope’s ear that made her suck in her breath.

The door opened and Ryder came into the kitchen, making Sophie suck in her own breath. Without thinking Sophie said, “Thank God you’re here. I think they’re going to have sex right in front of me.”
