“Little shithead,” I muttered at the wood, jumping when Juliet laid a hand on my shoulder.
“Who’s a little shithead? Jamie?” she asked with a confused frown.
I narrowed my eyes at her and nodded solemnly.
“You didn’t tell me your roommate was so… good-looking,” I muttered, pained that I had to admit that my brand new rival was attractive. “Or that he’s a man. A man with a penis.”
Juliet blinked a few times before slowly stating, “He does have a penis.”
“Are you... familiar with his penis?”
Then she was stifling a laugh, her shoulders shaking gently with the effort.
“No, I’m not.”
“It’s not funny.”
“It really is.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re more likely to become familiar with Jamie’s penis than I am. I’m not exactly his type.”
What she was hinting at slammed into me like a truck. Jamie was a gay man.
Ohhh.
Juliet hadn’t told me anything about Jamie beside the fact that they came to Florida together from Colorado when they were both eighteen, so I guess it made sense that his gender hadn’t come up yet. I was sure that she would have told me as soon as we spoke more about him.
“Well... I guess I’m the shithead.”
“But you’re not little,” Juliet teased as she finally let her laughter escape.
The sight of her smile made my mood immediately brighten. She had to be the most beautiful woman on the planet. When I told her that, her laugh faded away as she gazed up at me with that same adoring look she gave me on our first date.
My heart thumped hard and I was barely able to refrain from speaking the words that popped into my mind.
I think I’m in love with you.
