“Of course.”

He was a slimy motherfucker, that much I knew. So, I took things a step further.

“Also,” I said as I continued jotting things down, “this contract will also guarantee your help at a discounted price should someone--”

“No.”

I stood to my feet and slammed the papers against his desk. “This contract will also guarantee your help at a price I can afford should someone at that party go to the press and express what happened at that banquet. I did my research, Mr. Drake. You’re as slimy as they come. You’re nothing but an eel, slithering around and waiting to bleed people dry for services anyone could give themselves. And I won’t gag you without gagging everyone else at that party, do you understand? You say you won’t go to the press, and then you’ll turn right around and have someone else from the party do it for you. So, in order to make sure that doesn’t happen, your services will be contracted into the document for a steeply discounted fee of seventy percent off should anyone from that party come forward and attempt to slander my sister’s reputation in any way.”

I finished scribbling it before signing my name, my initials, and dating the damn document.

Then, I held the pen out for him. “The question is, are you willing to put your pride where your own god damn mouth is?”

He plucked that pen from my grasp quicker than I figured he would have. He signed the document without blinking an eye, then he plopped the pen back into its bougie little silver and wooden holder that sat on top of the man’s desk. He stood, taking the papers with him before he walked back over to his printer and opened the lid.

And after he was done making a photocopy of the document, he stapled it and handed it to me.

“Leave your personal number and email with my secretary. I’ll email you the itinerary for Italy before the end of the day today.”

I snatched my purse up from the floor. “Fantastic.”

“And Miss Rochere?”

I paused in the middle of his office. “Yep?”

“I’m really looking forward to our time together. I believe we’ll be able to create some… very pleasant memories.”

I swallowed down the bile creeping up the back of my throat. “Fantastic.”

And as I ripped his office door open, heading straight for his secretary’s desk, the sound of his chuckle followed me out into the hallway.

Taunting me like the prey I had just become.
