And it caused me to start laughing.

“Shut up,” he glowered.

I cupped my hand over my mouth. “Oh, my God. You’re incessant.”

“I said, stop it.”

“I’m going to make your life a living nightmare. You know that, right?”

“I said, That’s enough, Miss Rochere.”

His voice bellowed over my head and I curled my lips over my teeth. I tried my best to stifle my laughter, but it simply wasn’t any use. His face flushed with red. It trickled down his neck and disappeared beneath his impeccable black-on-black suit. His frustration mounted behind his eyes, which only caused me to lean back and look up at the ceiling while I continued to try and dull the guffaws trying to break free through my mouth.

And after finally calming down, I cracked my neck. “This is going to be too easy.”

“Funny,” he said as he stood to his feet, “because that’s what I thought the first second you stepped into my office.”

I blinked. “What?”

“You heard me,” he said as he made his way for the back of the jet, “the second you stepped into my office, I knew exactly what I wanted from you. I knew exactly the role you’d play, and it was only a matter of allowing you to assume that the ball was in your court. And while you may have loopholed yourself into working all weekend, there’s one thing you didn’t cross out. One thing you didn’t remove from our contract.”

My heart stopped in my chest. “Which is…?”

He grinned. “You forgot to remove the part where you listen to my every word all weekend.”

“That’s not in the contract.”

“Are you sure about that?”

I dug that thing out of the depths of my shit like a bat out of hell. I scanned the document, utilizing my speed-reading skills that kept me afloat in law school before I scrolled across the words at the very bottom of the back of the second page.

Words that were in six-point font and looked like nothing more than smudges of ink.

“No,” I whispered.

“You have no idea who you’re playing with,” he said plainly. “You have no idea what kind of opponent I can be. So, put your fucking laptop up and eat before I send word to my colleague to release the trove of information I’ve already built up to dig your sister’s god damn grave.”

He pulled my laptop away from me and pushed my plate forward. I squared up and brought my face close to his, drinking him in as I stared back defiantly.

“I. Said. No.” I enunciated and smiled when he narrowed his eyes at me.

Before I could register, he took my laptop from the tray and slammed it down on the seat by us. My eyes widened as I felt hell's fury swell inside me. I grabbed my glass of champagne and threw it at him, but he moved his head and dodged it immediately, his nostrils flared as he eyed me down.

As I pant with fury, he straightened his jacket and gave me that wicked, arrogant smile, pissing me off even further.

“Now, be a good little girl and finish your meal before I get back.” He said before disappearing into the darkness of the jet.

As he disappeared into the darkness of the back of the jet, I plopped into my chair. I picked up the NDA and held it close to my face, reading the words that had sealed my fate. Tears crested my eyes. Tears I refused to shed as I blinked them back and picked up my fork.

I did my best to eat as quickly as possible before I swiveled my chair around.

Because if I couldn’t work on the flight, I sure as hell wasn’t going to look at him.

I heard him return before he sat down and started typing away on his phone. I closed my eyes, allowing myself a moment’s rest before I felt the jarring landing of the plane. It shook me to my core, forcing me to jump as my eyes whipped back open.

And as exhaustion poured over my every muscle, Dominik cleared his throat.

“We’re here. Get your things. We still have an hour’s ride ahead of us.”
