I know that the loyalty between the cousins is strong, but to outright oppose his father… Okay, yeah that’s not surprising about Maximo at all. I’ve seen him go against Giovanni’s wishes multiple times and he at the very least loveshim.

He hated his father from what I understand.

“Do you think you’ll ever be able to forgive them?” I ask her, gesturing to the brothers.

Her jaw tightens. “In most ways, I have, as much as I hate to admit it. They were brought up in this world where they didn’t know any different but to think women were only good to serve and bear children. And even when they were being taught that homosexuality was a sin, neither ever treated Maximo differently for liking what he likes,” she adds on, her eyes flickering to Maximo. “But when they left they changed a lot. And they did finally extend an offer for me to join them in New York. But I’m stubborn at my core so the hurt still lingers.”

Of course.

“And I hate when they try to do little shit like Primo did, bringing my flowers,” she sneers the last part.

I snort a laugh. “Did you have to shoot the vase?” I ask her.

“Do you know a better way to destroy such an atrocious gift?” she raises a brow.

“Maybe throwing it in the trash.”

She waves a hand, “Goodness, Winter, and here I was thinking the good girl had been beaten out of you,” she jokes before rising to her feet. “I have some business I need to attend to, I’ll see you later.”

I’m not surprised in the slightest that she’s dipping from the party early, especially after revealing her emotions to me.

I nod. “See you later.”

After she leaves, I let my gaze move over the party, a smile taking over my face when I spot Daria walking out with Isabella. Polo, Lorenzo, and their guard, Salvatore, walk behind them.

Daria is wearing a brown tankini a few shades darker than her own skin, her curly hair braided down into two french braids. Isabella’s bikini is a little more risque, the two pieces of white fabric just barely covering her tits and ass.

Daria’s gaze moves over me and she returns my smile, waving before dragging Isabella in my direction. Both engulf me into hugs I didn’t know I needed.

Daria Accardi has been a ray of sunshine from the first moment that I met her. There was an instant connection the first time we sat down and talked.

Isabella Accardi, I had been hesitant about at first. She’s a lot brasher than her cousin, loud and bold. I’d thought for a moment she was rude when we first met but then I’d realized she’s just… aggressive.

“We haven’t seen you in forever,” Daria says, her gaze moving to my still present leg brace. “What the hell happened?”

I wave a hand. “It’s not worth talking about,” I tell her.

Isabella peers at my leg herself but doesn’t say anything, her gaze moving to the pool. “Oh, Ettore and Primo are here?” she asks in excitement.

“Who?” Daria tries to peer around her.

“Lucia’s brothers,” Isabella says. “They were gone by the time your father started letting you come around the other families. But they’re just as hot as the rest of the family.” A crooked grin takes over her face. “I’ll have to flip a coin on who I’d prefer to sandwich me before the day is over; Ettore and Primo, or Enzo and Maximo.”

A weird feeling moves through my chest and my stomach doesn’t quite feel right. I tell myself it’s not because of Isabella’s words, but I’d be lying.

Daria’s gaze moves to me and her lips part slightly before she shoves an elbow and a pointed look at her cousin. “Isabella,” she hisses.

“Ow,” Isabella rubs at her side. “What was that for?”

Daria only stares at her and Isabella seems lost until she looks at me. “Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot,” she says after a moment. “I suppose it’ll be Ettore and Primo then.”

My skin grows hot and I rub my jaw. “I…” I’m at a loss for words.

I don’t hold any sort of claim over Maximo or Enzo and frankly I shouldn’t want to. But I still can’t deny the unease that moves through me at the thought of them picking up whatever fucked up relationship they have with Isabella.

“They’re not getting along right now anyway,” are the words that I choose to settle for.

Isabella raises a brow. “Really?” Her gaze weeps around the party. “I suppose it makes sense why they’re separate for once.”
