“Totally,” she said back.

“You’re not involving Liam in Jacob and Alexis’s shit,” Cap said as we made our way to the elevators.

“Why not?” I asked.

He didn’t answer, he inquired shrewdly, “Is that why you showed at the offices?”

“It was secondary to saying hey to you.”

He hit the button on the elevator.

“I think it’s an awesome idea,” Luna chimed in.

“You would,” Cap muttered.

I turned to Luna. “I don’t know about Oregano’s. Maybe I can throw a shindig in the courtyard.”

“You can make your pudding,” she replied.

Perfect!

That’d win them all over.

It woneverybodyover.

The elevator doors opened and we entered with Cap saying, “How about we deal with your dad first, and you can deal with my family after?”

“Your dad?” Luna asked.

“I forgot to tell you,” I said. “He hits town Wednesday. We’re having dinner Wednesday night at Lon’s. Cap is coming.” After I said this, I thought about it and hoped she wouldn’t feel slighted since she was my ride or die. I didn’t want her to feel left out, like I was replacing her with Cap. So I said, “You wanna come too?”

“You bet your bippy,” she replied.

One hundred percent my ride or die.

“Do you two ever kick back and read a book?” Cap asked.

“Yeah, loads,” Luna answered. “There are twenty-four hours in a day, you know. Plenty of time to shove it all in.”

“I try to read,” I told him. “But I usually get side—oh snap!”’ I exclaimed when I remembered Patches. “I forgot to go over to Jenn’s and get Patches.” I looked to Luna again. “We need to make another pitstop.”

“You got it, sister.”

“Jesus,” Cap said under his breath.

“I like your mom’s Afro,” I told him.

He stared down at me and he did this a long time.

When the elevator doors opened, he murmured, “Christ, you’re something.”

“Is that good?”

“Absolutely.”

I smiled.

Cap walked us to Luna’s car.
